The Fabric Engineer is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and installation of building fabric systems in commercial, residential, or industrial settings. This includes tasks related to the structure and finishes of a building such as walls, roofs, doors, windows, flooring, and ceilings. The Fabric Engineer ensures that all fabric related issues are resolved promptly, maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of the building.

Main Duties are but not limited to:

  • Carry out regular inspections of building fabric (walls, floors, ceilings, windows, doors, etc.) to identify and address any damage or wear.
  • Perform general fabric repairs, including plastering, tiling, joinery, glazing, painting and other related maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure that all new fabric installations meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all fabric maintenance and repair work complies with health and safety standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Identify potential health and safety risks relating to fabric conditions (e.g., asbestos, structural instability) and escalate issues where necessary.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high-quality standard, meeting both internal and external client specifications.
  • Monitor and track any ongoing or recurring fabric-related issues, suggesting preventative maintenance or long-term solutions.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in a fabric maintenance or building maintenance role, with a strong understanding of building fabric systems.
  • Proficiency in fabric-related repairs (plastering, joinery, flooring, glazing, etc.) and an understanding of building construction techniques and materials.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and provide efficient and effective solutions.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations related to building maintenance and construction work.
  • Good communication skills for liaising with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • High attention to detail to ensure all work is completed to a high standard.
  • Must be able to work out of hours and travel nationwide.

Documentation:

  • DBS certification (essential and will be undertaken as part of the vetting process).
  • BS7858 vetting to be started.
  • Beneficial certifications: ECS, IPAF, or similar qualifications.
  • Industry based system and equipment training beneficial.
  • Full UK driving licence.
