Our client is a highly respected housing developer who specialise in niche, high quality new build family housing.
An opportunity has arisen for a Technical Manager to join the business on an initial 6 month contract, working from the office and remotely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Technical Coordination:
- Manage and coordinate the design process, working closely with architects, engineers, planning consultants, and other design professionals.
- Ensure all technical aspects of a project are aligned with client specifications, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead technical review meetings and ensure effective communication between design and site teams.
- Manage the preparation, review, and approval of technical drawings and documents.
- Compliance & Regulation:
- Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, Planning Permissions, CDM Regulations, NHBC/LABC standards, and other statutory and warranty provider requirements.
- Manage discharge of planning conditions and coordinate Building Control approvals.
- Project Management & Delivery Support:
- Contribute to the preparation of pre-construction programmes, tender documentation, and technical submissions.
- Work alongside the construction and commercial teams to ensure technical information supports effective procurement and site delivery.
- Provide input into value engineering exercises without compromising on quality or performance.
- Attend site progress meetings and support the resolution of technical/site-related queries.
- Consultant & Team Management:
- Appoint and manage external design consultants, ensuring delivery against project milestones.
- Monitor and manage consultant performance, issuing instructions and managing design change control.
- Act as the technical point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and authorities.
- Documentation & Control:
- Oversee technical document control systems to ensure the latest drawings and specifications are issued and followed.
- Review and approve technical documents including specifications, drawings, and product information.
- Maintain a robust audit trail of decisions and approvals in line with QA procedures.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong understanding of UK construction methods, materials, and building regulations.
- Proven experience as a Technical Manager or Design Manager in the construction industry.
- Experience managing residential, commercial, or mixed-use projects from pre-construction to handover.
- Proficiency in technical drawing interpretation and familiarity with AutoCAD and BIM workflows.
- Excellent knowledge of planning processes, Building Control procedures, and compliance standards.
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage multiple stakeholders.
