What We Are Looking For
Tradebe is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join our Life Sciences – Purification division at our Sunderland (Hendon Dock) site.
We are looking for a skilled professional with strong mechanical engineering knowledge and hands‑on experience in troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in regulated and hazardous environments and committed to high safety and performance standards.
Mission of the Role
As a Mechanical Fitter, your mission will be to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mechanical plant and equipment, supporting continuous production while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational performance.
You will contribute to maximizing plant availability, minimizing downtime, and driving continuous improvement across the site.
Responsibilities
- Carry out all tasks in compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and company standards
- Promote a positive safety culture by maintaining housekeeping standards, using appropriate PPE, and reporting hazards or near misses
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, inspections, and commissioning of mechanical equipment using CMMS systems
- Install, maintain, and repair mechanical plant equipment to a high standard and within required timescales
- Support the Engineering Supervisor in planning and executing maintenance, shutdowns, and improvement activities
- Diagnose faults, carry out root cause analysis, and implement solutions to improve reliability and performance
- Ensure all work is conducted under permit‑to‑work systems, including appropriate risk assessments, isolations, and safety controls
- Contribute to capital projects, including installation, commissioning, and handover of equipment
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, spare parts usage, and equipment performance
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of waste in line with environmental regulations
- Participate in risk assessments, Management of Change (MOC) processes, and incident investigations
- Provide support across the engineering team in line with competencies (e.g., basic electrical tasks or equipment operation where trained)
- Provide basic guidance or knowledge sharing to colleagues when required
- Support emergency response activities in line with site procedures.
Requirements
- Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within an industrial environment
- CompEx Mechanical qualification or experience working in hazardous areas is desirable
- Experience working under COMAH regulations and understanding of environmental, health, and safety legislation
- Strong troubleshooting and fault‑finding skills
- Experience using CMMS systems for maintenance planning and reporting
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Flexible approach to working hours, including overtime when required, in line with business needs and applicable regulations
