The Mechanical Fitter will possess a comprehensive range of engineering knowledge along with suitable practical experience for both trouble shooting and installation work. The ideal candidate will possess CompEx Mechanical qualifications and experience working in hazardous areas. Experience and knowledge gained working within top tier CoMAH regulations including corresponding environmental, health and safety legislative requirements are fundamental to this role.

Responsibilities

To be responsible to the Engineering Manager for:

  • Ensuring all duties and assigned activities are carried out in compliance with statutory legal requirements and the companies quality, health & safety and environmental policies
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture by sustaining good housekeeping standards, wearing correct PPE, reporting any observed near misses and isolating any unsafe situations
  • Adhere to Tradebe policies and procedures completing all necessary documentation and performing the necessary routine checks whilst maintaining the required standards
  • Manage workload to ensure safe, standardised and efficient maintenance of all plant and equipment as per CMMS task instructions, statutory requirements and technical documents
  • Completion of daily work to suitable standards using CMMS job sheets for routine maintenance, repairs and commissioning / testing of the site equipment ensuring correct completion of jobs
  • Responsible for performing and overseeing the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of all relevant mechanical equipment, ensuring all work undertaken to the highest standards and within required timescales
  • Work in conjunction with engineering supervisor to complete CMMS jobs and task lists ensuring that they are completed on time and suitably closed out
  • Work with engineering supervisor to ensure that all mechanical based project plans, improvements, repairs and shutdowns are performed to the appropriate standard / timescales
  • Contribute as required to the scoping and installation of capital projects including the provision of labour, supervision of contract labour, technical / process data and thorough commissioning, snagging and hand over of installed equipment
  • Identify appropriate repairs / upgrades and routine maintenance requirements are undertaken to maximise and maintain plant availability and efficiency
  • Report all equipment defects, faults or alarms and that any issue is appropriately handled ensuring any unsafe items are suitably isolated and communicated
  • The mechanical engineering team must follow Tradebe permit to work procedures ensuring that suitable risk assessments and controls are in place before starting the task. This must include suitable coverage of all hazards, pre-requisites for isolations and cleaning prior to starting work
  • Support engineering department to flexibly respond to business needs through performing additional tasks including basic electrical tasks, fork lift driving etc. in accordance with competencies and departmental requirements
  • Participate in MOC discussion reviews, hazard studies, risk/task assessments and accident investigations as required
  • Follow change management (MOC) system by ensuring that all actions have been approved and using own assessment ensuring no impact to normal operation or statutory requirements prior to physically making a change
  • Striving to improve plant operation and control through mechanical maintenance support to maximise plant efficiency whilst identifying any potential continuous improvement opportunities to improve control, operation or maintenance
  • Providing basic training or awareness for other engineers or operators in areas which they are working
  • Ensure all waste generated by the mechanical engineering team is disposed of timely and efficiently in line with current legislation whilst maintaining housekeeping standards
  • Assist engineering supervisor in all aspects of his work and deputise as required in his absence
  • Role

  • Ensure that all tasks performed are conducted to good Health, Safety and Environmental practices, paying particular attention to housekeeping and that all defects or issues are reported
  • Follow task risk assessment instructions ensuring that task instructions cover everyday tasks and routines suitably and that they are up to date
  • Timely completion of CMMS tasks and routines whilst complying to all health and safety requirements
  • Aiming to achieve efficient and maximised operation of equipment ensuring it is correctly assembled and commissioned safely as per manufacturer instructions
  • Suitable precautions are used to ensure all work, process break-ins and isolations are communicated to the permit writer; this must include depressurisation, any required cleaning or flushing and testing prior to starting work
  • Safe and efficient return to service of plant equipment ensuring suitable engineering standards of workmanship are followed for all repairs and installations in terms of legal compliance, best practise and company standards where applicable; if required suitable testing must be performed prior to handover
  • Record details from equipment breakdowns whilst repairing with the intention to improve reliability, performance, running time and reduce repair costs by assessing the root cause of the failure; especially for common or repetitive failures. Note: spares used and hours consumed should be recorded on the work order
  • To make sure that all routine tasks are issued via a CMMS work order and that they are up to date and are accurate. Tasks must be consistently performed by following the task instructions at all key stages. Contribute to full periodic review of task instructions against guidance and best practises
  • Ensure all COSHH, hazard and risk assessments control measures are highlighted, understood and included within a permit to work and or as appropriate within the relevant task instruction
  • Walk through all jobs prior to starting to ensure suitable precautions, access, isolations and cleaning have been provided
  • Record the usage and control of mechanical consumables and spares to safeguard uninterrupted processing
  • Responsible to update engineering supervisor with daily communications to provide timely feedback on activities, any outstanding handover faults or breakdowns, isolations in place, and any accidents, incident or near misses that have occurred
  • Assisting the Engineering supervisor to plan and manage maintenance and shutdown schedules, incorporating all required routines whilst minimising plant down time
  • Follow identified disposal routes for all waste arisingโ€™s ensuring that the correct segregation rules are used; if required highlight, identify and label any unknown routes to engineering supervisor
  • Ensure suitable standards are used for all repairs and installations through compliance to either legislative, best practice or company standards as appropriate. If deemed necessary suitable testing and or commissioning must be performed for all equipment / pipelines prior to handover
  • A flexible approach is required when working and availability for work during out of hours breakdowns or weekend shutdowns through availability of reasonable amounts of overtime to enable the company to meet its production needs
  • To undergo any necessary training to keep abreast of new technologies or health & safety requirements
  • In the event of a Major Incident or Accident on site provide support to the Site Incident Controller to aid the recovery of the site and or support attending emergency services
