At our Winfrith nuclear licensed site, we hold extensive UK & overseas authorizations and safety case, providing radioactive waste treatment services including radiochemistry, treatment, encapsulation, size reduction, incineration, and disposal. This enables us to offer innovative and integrated solutions for complex waste projects.
We are currently seeking a Laboratory Technical Manager to join us on site in Winfrith.
The role
To act as Technical Manager in the ACS function, responsible for ISO 17025 compliance, method development, machine maintenance, supplier relationships, SLA management, QA/QC, lab SSHEQ, inventory, waste disposal, and serving as the Principal Radiochemist. The candidate should perform chemical and radiochemical analyses, support laboratory operations with extensive analytical expertise, and assist the Commercial Team with technical queries and contract delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Chemical and Radiochemical Analyses
- Act as Principal Radiochemist
- Manage sample logging and preparation
- Conduct analyses per QA protocols
- Calibrate instruments and ensure performance checks
- Data entry, interpretation, troubleshooting
- Maintain laboratory notebooks and develop techniques
- Perform operational work and support other activities
- Archive samples and QA documentation
- Share best practices
- Act as QA Manager for ISO 17025
- Represent ACS externally
- Host technical meetings
- Assist with scheduling, staff metrics, financial aspects
- Review analytical reports and QA documentation
- Approve purchase orders and conduct staff appraisals
- Ensure QA and safety practices
- Comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
