What will you do?
The role holder will be responsible for the analysis of samples submitted to the main laboratory according to site procedures, to subsequently record the results in our computer system, keeping them in a well-organised filing system and to inform the Laboratory Manager and Site Management of any abnormal results.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- To adhere to Health and Safety rules at all times.
- To promptly analyse samples submitted to the main laboratory by operations, and relate the results back to the shift manager/lab manager/operations manager/TAD.
- Main techniques to be used will be: analysis of metals by ICP-OES, analysis of organics by GC-MS, XRF analysis, pH, water content by Karl Fischer titration, CV by Bomb Calorimeter, acidity/alkalinity by titration, sulphide/sulphate/COD determination by spectrophotometry, determination of flash point.
- To record the data in its electronic version in SAP and corresponding spreadsheet, and to email the data to relevant individuals.
- To timely analyse all other samples submitted to the main laboratory by the sales team.
- To assist the other chemist in the completion of priority work when instructed to do so by the lab manager.
- To maintain the calibration and accurate performance of laboratory equipment.
- To report issues where they arise.
- To produce any reports for their lab manager as requested.
- Liaise with internal and external laboratories where sample analysis is required.
- Liaise with operations, compliance, customer services and sales to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Ensure non-conformances are processed as soon as possible and all relevant parties are communicated to and informed of any resulting actions.
- To be diligent and respect the confidentiality of the information to which they are party.
- To keep a good level of housekeeping in the main laboratory.
- To perform all other reasonable duties and tasks as requested.
Do you have what it takes?
Knowledge: HNC/Degree in Chemistry or closely aligned subject. Laboratory experience (water analysis) is desirable, but not essential (training will be provided). IT literate.
