Job description

Tradebe are currently looking for an Environmental Waste Operator to be based on our Winfrith Site in Dorset. The main role of the job is to perform tasks supporting radioactive waste projects in support of business needs.

The job includes but is not limited to:

  • Perform Radioactive Waste Plant Operations
  • Waste Movements
  • Housekeeping
  • The role

  • Carry out processing operations for numerous process plant applications involved in cementation, super-compaction, size reduction, sort and segregation, decontamination, and chemical processing. procedures.
  • To be flexible to work both at the Winfrith site and other sites as required. Also, flexible to work on rotas and weekends as required.
  • Use of PPE and RPE as part of the job. Awareness and application of Health and Safety, Environmental and Security regulations on a Nuclear Licensed Site as required.
  • The Post Holder uses considerable variations of manual handling techniques.
  • Awareness and use of Safe Systems of Work including Risk Assessments in a radioactive environment. Flexibility to take on any task as required by the business with suitable training and support.
  • Demonstrate appropriate Health and Safety commitment
  • Ensure you carry out your duties safely and compliantly, by reporting any safety issues immediately to site management.
  • Trained in forklift truck, crane driving and slinging operations, with importance placed on the waste moves, following waste loading instructions and in collaboration with the Appointed Person Lifting (APL).
  • Preparation of radioactive waste packages and loads for onward disposal.
  • Ensure all operational work areas are kept clean and tidy to the standards required of a Nuclear Licensed Site.
  • Ensure that on completion of daily tasks that work areas are left safe, secure and tidy.

  • Gantry crane and slinger experience (training can be given)
  • Work well under pressure and able to meet timescales
  • Desirable Skills:

    • Operational plant set-up, operation, control, monitoring and dismantling
    • Knowledge of safety documentation such as method statements and risk assessments
    • Work on radioactive plant
    • Work with radioactive materials
    • Use of IT equipment
