Tradebe Inutec are looking for a Health Physics Surveyor to join our team in Winfrith, Dorset. In this role you will provide health physics monitoring support to maintain radiological safety. Working closely with operations teams and analytical projects to provide radiological advice and guidance and assist in project delivery.
The role
- Conduct routine health physics monitoring tasks to ensure statutory compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016.
- Complete radiation and contamination surveys in accordance with the planned survey schedules and for pre and post operations as required.
- Provide health physics support to the operational, analytical projects, maintenance and project management teams.
- Support the Radioactive Disposals, Accountancy and Transport (RDAT) team to ensure transport packages and vehicles leave site compliant with the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009.
- Assist in the sentencing of out of scope and exempt wastes.
- Carry out air sampling, including the calculation of airborne contamination levels.
- Set up and declassify radiological supervised and controlled areas.
- Monitor items out of controlled contamination areas.
- Assist in the decontamination of areas or items as required.
- Leak test radioactive sources in accordance with the planned schedule.
- Conduct environmental monitoring, including discharge sampling.
- Maintain health physics records, including daily log and survey reports.
- Coach staff in radiological best practice, site standards and expectations.
- Provide health physics training as required, including over the barrier training, operational monitoring and surveyor training.
- Provide radiological support during emergency situations and exercises.
- Manage the radiation monitoring instrumentation pool to ensure that sufficient calibrated and function tested instruments are available at all times.
- Assist with the site personal dose assessment arrangements, including the arrangements for outside workers.
The person
- Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Radiation Protection or City and Guilds Stage 1 in Radiation Safety Practice.
- Previous experience in active plant operations and monitoring techniques.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer literate.
- Self-motivated.
- Able to wear Respiratory Protective Equipment.
