What will you do? Make an impact! The Radioactives Chemist Team Lead (internally known as 'Active Waste Chemist') will be responsible for the overall management of the processes involved in the compliant and safe control of radioactive inputs onto and through the Fawley site that will provide revenue growth to the business.
To lead and manage key customers' waste from initial enquiry through all phases of processing to final disposal, ensuring an efficient and professional service at all times. To ensure compliance is maintained at all times against the site's Radioactive Environmental Permit with adherence to procedures, RPS control of operations and maintenance of accurate records.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in Radiation Protection work (as demonstrated by being a qualified Radiation Protection Supervisor/working towards this) and demonstrate a strong ability to lead and manage complex teams.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and respond directly to customer enquiries and/or in support to the Radioactives Sales Team.
- Provide technical support and capability review to customer enquiries.
- Book in radioactive waste in compliance with our Radiological Permit and Conditions for Acceptance, for both radioactive and hazardous waste properties.
- Where necessary book transport and raise transport documentation and labels for incoming consignments.
- Ensuring waste storage compliance.
- Support and when necessary lead in the programming of radioactive wastes into the Incinerator via all available routes and maintaining accurate disposal records.
- Provide clear burn plan instructions to the Fawley Incinerator Shift Managers.
- Ensure all ash and filter cake disposals containing radioactives are compliant for onward disposal to the appropriate landfill disposal site.
- Ensure appropriate radiological clearance checks are performed on any containers to be returned to customer site and all relevant transfer documentation completed.
- Qualified Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) or working towards.
- Computer literate (MS Excel, MS Word and SAP).
- Ability to manage staff (act as a line manager).
- H&S and Environmental Legislation knowledge.
- Knowledge of Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) relating to radioactives as a minimum but ideally with a relevant qualification.
- Knowledge of the UK radioactive waste management and nuclear industry.
