What will you do? Make an impact!
This site operates a major hazardous waste export function and requires an experienced Operational Waste Chemist to support its technical and operational delivery.
Reporting to the IRS Operations Manager and working closely with the IRS Supervisor and wider site team, the successful candidate will help manage load preparation, material selection, and ensure full compliance with technical and legislative requirements. The role spans all Tradebe Transfer Stations and involves some travel.
A keen eye for detail, strong organisational skills, and hands-on outdoor work are essential. Standard hours are 8am-5pm, though shift work and overtime may be required during busy periods or for staff cover.
What you\’ll be doing:
* Material Quality & Compliance: Ensure all incoming materials meet export requirements; raise NCRs for any discrepancies. Confirm outbound loads comply with receiving facility criteria, EA permit requirements, and weekly export plans.
* Repackaging & Routing: Determine the most effective and safe repackaging methods, balancing cost and end-destination criteria. Select optimal technical, commercial, and operational routing for all materials.
* Stock & Planning Coordination: Monitor TFS stock levels and align with export schedules to maximise efficiency and space across the site.
* Communication & Safety: Liaise daily with operations and management teams to address site pressures, develop action plans, and raise H&S concerns via QPulse to maintain safe working practices.
Do you have what it takes?
* Degree or HNC in Chemistry or closely related discipline.
* 2 years\’ experience in the waste industry with a good base level understanding of Transfrontier Shipment.
* Strong understanding of hazardous waste classification and knowledge of waste treatment methods. Awareness of EfW and waste recovery is desirable.
* Familiarity with MSDSs (Material Safety Data Sheets) and assessing chemical compositions.
* Strong problem-solving skills in identifying unknown wastes and determining appropriate disposal routes
* Knowledge of waste treatment processes (e.g., incineration, landfill, recycling technologies)
