The Finance Department of UNISON are currently seeking a confident, highly motivated and dynamic individual to manage and lead the Third-Party Payments Team which consists of four staff responsible for the processing of all Third-Party Payments and Rule Book Benefit payments.

Responsibilities include the day-to-day management of the payments team to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions, including managing the Purchase Ledger system, running Integra reports, maintaining the system and assisting with system upgrade testing. The role manages and processes all Industrial Action payments made to branches and members direct and undertakes monthly reconciliations of the Industrial Action Account.
You will have overall responsibility to manage and process all credit card applications and accounts of staff and NEC members using D-Cal and undertake monthly reconciliations as well as training staff across the organisation in D-Cal procedures. Also essential to the role is the undertaking of timely reconciliations of the daily control account and imprest accounts.
The role calls for an individual who has strong staff management and team leadership skills; excellent knowledge and understanding of Purchase Ledger and accounting systems; experience of change management; the ability to communicate effectively and at all levels and be highly organised to meet objectives and deadlines.
You will have very good all-round technical and practical knowledge of accounting concepts and double entry bookkeeping and experience of working in a multi cost centre organisation. You will be adept at working with large volumes of data but also and have strong analytical skills with an eye for detail; excellent reporting attributes to be able to produce and present relevant information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders and the ability to communicate effectively and at all levels. The post holder will be highly organised and able to work unsupervised to meet the diverse demands and objectives of the finance section to strict deadlines.
It is preferred that the post holder is qualified at a minimum AAT standard or is working towards an accounting qualification, although not essential.
The role is required to have an understanding of Trades Unions and be sympathetic to their aims and objectives.
This appointment will be on a permanent basis (subject to a six-month probationary period), based at the Head Office in Central London. In return, the successful candidate will receive a competitive salary based on the current pay and grade structure, 32 days annual leave and benefits of a final salary pension plan as well as flexible working options.
