Job Description:

We are seeking a Negotiations Officer to join our Public Services team based in our London Victoria office. You will handle individual casework and support members and branches, mainly within the civil service, ensuring successful outcomes through individual and collective representation. Building and maintaining effective branch relationships, memberships, and structures will be key.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience and understanding of collective labour law, contemporary industrial relations, and a passion for trade union work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and advise members and branches to meet their needs and achieve successful outcomes.
  • Lead formal negotiations with lay representatives and other trade unions on issues like pay and workplace changes.
  • Strengthen and support collective bargaining, handle personal casework, and develop branch relationships.
  • Identify, train, and develop representatives; contribute to sectoral campaigning and networking activities.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence.
  • Good knowledge of employment law, with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Leadership qualities and professionalism in challenging situations.
  • Experience in developing branch capabilities, campaigning, and supporting members.
  • Strong planning, organizing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Background in the trade union movement.
  • Knowledge of pensions, health and safety, and equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
  • Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly within a team.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and project management tools.
  • Experience in project management and campaigning.
