Overview We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor in the Cambridgeshire area. The successful candidate will be joining a growing civils and groundworks team. You will play a key role in pricing works, managing commercial risk, and supporting the delivery of profitable projects. This role suits a commercially aware individual with strong knowledge of civils and groundworks from a subcontractor perspective, capable of working independently while supporting senior management.Key Responsibilities Estimating: Prepare accurate and competitive tenders for civils and groundworks packages.Take-offs: Undertake take-offs from drawings and specifications.Risk & value: Assess risk, opportunities, and value engineering options.Commercial sourcing: Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.Valuations & payments: Prepare and submit valuations and applications for payment.Variations: Manage variations, including identification, pricing, and negotiation.Cost control & reporting: Assist with cost control and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.Cash flow: Support cash flow forecasting and commercial planning.Data & systems: Build, maintain, and develop an estimating and cost database.Analytics: Carry out cross-analysis of historical project data to improve future tenders.Procedures: Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating procedures.Collaboration: Work closely with project teams, directors, and clients.Compliance: Ensure commercial compliance with contracts and company procedures.Workload: Manage multiple tenders while meeting strict deadlines.Key Skills & Experience EssentialStrong knowledge of civils and groundworks (subcontractor experience preferred).Proven experience in estimating and quantity surveying.Excellent time management and organisational skills.Strong numerical, analytical, and commercial awareness.Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.Confident communication and negotiation skills.DesirableExperience with NEC or JCT contracts.Familiarity with UK construction procurement processes.Experience in cost reporting and forecasting.Senior QS / Progression This role offers progression to Senior Quantity Surveyor, with career development as far as you would like to go, based on performance and ambition.Salary & Benefits Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience.Career progression opportunities.Supportive and growing company environment.For more information please call Peter from TRADE RECRUITMENT on (phone number removed) or email CV to address provided
