An established and busy regional auction house is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Cataloguer and Valuer to join our team. This key role will provide essential support with researching, valuing, and cataloguing of a wide range of items for consignment into our Interiors & General sales. The ability to catalogue at pace with a high degree of accuracy is an essential prerequisite for this role.
Key responsibilities
Typical daily duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Saleroom
- Accurately catalogue and value items for the monthly Interiors & General sales.
- Manage consignments and stock control through the saleroom, working with the Saleroom Assistants.
- Ensure Interiors & General sale catalogues are produced accurately and on schedule across all platforms.
- Work with the rest of the team to see the sale process through from beginning to end, including sale setup, and post sale activities such as collections and unsold items.
- Provide accurate and detailed condition reports to bidders.
- Support other areas of the business where necessary.
Clients
- Provide advice to vendors in assessing and receipting consignments for sale.
- Respond to client queries and complaints efficiently and professionally.
- Aid in developing business to secure new consignments and expand the client base.
Skills/knowledge:
We are looking for somebody who:
- Has previous experience within an auction house, with specific experience of general valuation and cataloguing.
- Can communicate effectively and sensitively with new and existing clients as required.
- Can multitask and prioritise a busy workload in order meet deadlines.
- Has a hands-on approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
