The role ensures that radiation monitoring instruments are calibrated, tested and serviced to the highest standards before being shipped to customers. This position is hands‑on and focused on technical operations leadership, quality, regulatory compliance and team development. Although part of a global business, the role does not involve high‑volume manufacturing or full end‑to‑end production ownership. Instead, it oversees a skilled technical team delivering safe, accurate and efficient calibration and service workflows. Working closely with Engineering, R&D, Quality and Commercial teams, the Operations Manager ensures smooth throughput, safe working practices, and a high‑quality customer experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Management: Lead and develop a team of up to 10 technicians across calibration, testing, repair and service. Provide day‑to‑day guidance, coaching and support to ensure safe, efficient and high‑quality workflows. Build capability within the team through training, competency development and continuous improvement.
- Operational Delivery: Manage daily calibration, testing and service operations to meet customer turnaround expectations. Schedule workload, allocate resources and resolve bottlenecks to maintain smooth throughput. Ensure calibration certificates and technical documentation are accurate, traceable and compliant. Coordinate logistics for incoming and outgoing instruments.
- Technical Authority & Compliance: Act as (or support) the Qualified/Responsible Person and/or Radiation Protection Supervisor where required. Ensure all activities comply with radiological, quality and safety regulations. Maintain facility accreditations (e.g., ISO/IEC, UKAS) and ensure methods meet required standards. Prepare for and participate in audits and regulatory inspections.
- Quality & Continuous Improvement: Monitor KPIs for safety, quality, turnaround time and customer satisfaction. Lead problem‑solving activities and small improvement projects to optimise accuracy, efficiency and workflow. Support the introduction of new equipment, processes or digital tools.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work with Engineering, R&D and Commercial teams to support new product introduction and ensure operational readiness. Provide operational input into project plans, customer enquiries and service capabilities. Build relationships with approved external calibration/repair partners and conduct periodic reviews.
