This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within finance, particularly if you have previous experience in an accounts, finance administration or transactional environment.

The role

As Finance Assistant/Administrator, you will provide accurate and timely transactional finance support across areas including accounts payable, intercompany recharges, banking and cashbook allocations, employee expenses and company credit cards. You will work closely with the wider central finance team, supporting day-to-day processes while also contributing to process improvements and the adoption of automation and AI where appropriate.

Key responsibilities

  • Generate intercompany recharge invoices using approved supporting information and ensure accurate ledger coding.
  • Support daily banking and cashbook activities, including the accurate allocation of supplier and customer transactions.
  • Process supplier invoices, checking coding, descriptions, supporting documentation and approvals.
  • Monitor and respond to incoming invoices, requests and routine queries.
  • Support regular and ad hoc supplier payment runs, including payment file preparation and uploads.
  • Investigate outstanding invoice approvals and follow up on rejected transactions.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and assist with resolving supplier and internal account queries.
  • Support new supplier set-up and amendments, following appropriate bank-detail verification procedures.
  • Process employee expenses and credit card transactions, checking VAT, receipts, coding and compliance with company policy.
  • Assist with month-end accounts payable activities and reconciliations.
  • Provide cover across wider finance processes where required.
  • Contribute to finance process improvements, automation and the use of AI.
  • Escalate any approval, coding, banking or policy issues to the relevant member of the finance team.

About you

We are looking for someone who is organised, accurate and keen to build their experience within finance. You will ideally have:

  • Previous office admin experience, any level
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Clear and professional communication skills.
  • The ability to follow established processes, controls and approval procedures.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a finance environment.
  • Previous experience in finance, accounts payable or administration is desirable, although entry-level and internship experience will also be considered.
  • Experience using an accounting or ERP system such as Unit4, SAP, Oracle or Sage would be advantageous.
  • An awareness of VAT, supplier controls and fraud-prevention procedures would be beneficial.
  • AAT study or an interest in pursuing a career in finance would be welcomed.

Please note that they are unable to offer study support towards ACCA/ACA.

Why this role?

This is a good opportunity for someone at an early stage of their career to join a supportive team, gain broad exposure across transactional finance and develop their knowledge of accounts payable, banking, expenses and month-end processes. You will also have the opportunity to get involved in process improvement, automation and AI, making this a particularly interesting role for someone who wants to develop alongside a modern finance function.
