Assistant Management Accountant

A London Museum is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Part-Qualified Accountant to join its finance team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone currently studying towards a professional accounting qualification to gain broad exposure across core finance activities, including financial reporting, reconciliations, and management accounts.
About the Role:
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, the Assistant Management Accountant plays an important role within the Finance team. The postholder will assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and reporting packs, ensuring financial information is accurate, insightful, and delivered within agreed timescales. The role requires someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively manage competing priorities, and adapt to changing business needs. Key Responsibilities:
- Support month-end close activities and assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs, ensuring accurate and timely financial information.
- Maintain fixed asset register and process depreciation calculations and journal postings.
- Prepare and post accruals, prepayments, deferred income, and accrued income adjustments as part of the month-end process.
- Perform stock valuations, reconciliations, and adjustment postings to ensure accurate inventory reporting.
- Take ownership of the monthly Gift Aid process, ensuring accurate preparation and submission of claims.
- Support the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns in collaboration with the Financial Accountant.
- Contribute to internal and external audit processes by preparing and providing supporting documentation.
- Deliver finance inductions and training sessions to new employees, promoting understanding of financial processes and controls.
- Assist with the maintenance, enhancement, and continuous improvement of finance systems and reporting tools.
Essential
- Experience supporting the preparation of management accounts, including adjustments such as accruals.
- Previous involvement in purchase ledger processing and/or reviewing purchase ledger transactions.
- Demonstrated commercial awareness with a strong understanding of business operations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including the use of pivot tables and advanced lookup functions.
- Studying towards, or holding, a recognised accounting qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA), or equivalent practical experience.
- Understanding of financial processes within a charitable or not-for-profit environment.
- Familiarity with a range of accounting software packages, including Access Dimensions and Microsoft Business Central.
