Trace Solutions builds software that runs some of the UK’s most complex commercial property portfolios — lease administration, service charges, and property management at scale. We’re a 60-person, employee-owned business based in Clerkenwell, and our software sits at the heart of how our customers operate. We’re looking for a technically minded Sales Engineer to be the product expert in our commercial conversations. You’ll run demos, shape solutions, and translate what our software does into what it means for a prospect’s business. This is a hybrid role: part technical, part consultative, part commercial — ideal for someone who enjoys solving real customer problems and being the credible voice in the room.
What you’ll do
- Demos and technical sales support — the core of the role
- Lead software demonstrations tailored to each prospect’s use case, from first-pitch overviews to deep-dive technical sessions
- Partner with the Business Development team across the full sales cycle — discovery calls, scoping, requests for proposal, proof-of-concepts, procurement documentation and final-stage presentations
- Handle technical questions credibly, whether you’re talking to a Finance Director or an IT lead
- Represent Trace at customer site visits, trade shows, and industry events
- Create and maintain repeatable model data for differing customer business lines
- Solution design and consultation
- Work with prospects to understand their property management challenges and shape solutions that fit
- Provide feasibility assessments for custom or complex requirements
- Produce technical proposals, scoping documents, and proof-of-concept plans
- Collaborate with implementation teams to make sure what we sell is the deliverable solution
- Customer education and industry expertise
- Develop a deep working knowledge of commercial property management — portfolio and lease admin, financial processes and compliance within a regulatory context
- Stay current on PropTech trends, competitor positioning, and integration possibilities with the wider real estate tech stack
- Business development and market intelligence
- Spot upsell and cross-sell opportunities, working closely with Customer Success on account growth
- Maintain market competitive intelligence — comparison materials, differentiation strategies
- Feed market and competitive insight back into commercial planning
- Product feedback
- Act as voice of the customer in product roadmap discussions
- Document feature requests and enhancement themes
- Test new features and feedback during development cycles
What we’re looking for
- Essential
- Significant cross-sector PropTech, real estate, or property management software experience in both data and accounting processes to provide the foundation for credible prospect conversations and solutions delivery.
- Strong presenter — confident running demos and translating technical detail for non-technical audiences
- SaaS or business software background
- Consultative approach to customer conversations
- Quick technical learner — comfortable getting under the bonnet of complex software
- Commercially aware — understands how a sales process works and where presales adds value
- Nice to have
- Familiarity with database concepts, application programming interfaces, and system integrations
- Project management exposure
How you work
- Customer-centric — genuinely interested in solving the problem in front of you
- Detail-conscious in demos and documentation
- Adapts style to the room — boardroom one day, technical workshop the next
- Comfortable juggling multiple opportunities at once
