An international interior design organisation is seeking an experienced, proactive and highly organised Management Accountant to join its London finance team. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, this is a broad, hands-on role offering excellent exposure across day-to-day accounting, month-end reporting and financial control.

The successful candidate will ideally have at least four years' accounting experience, with accountancy practice experience particularly welcomed from those looking to make their first move into industry.

About the Role:

The Assistant Accountant will take ownership of key accounting processes across the organisation, supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts and month-end reporting while overseeing supplier accounting, client invoicing, banking, reconciliations and credit control. Working closely with the Finance Director and wider project teams, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, investigating queries and delivering key accounting processes within agreed monthly deadlines. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move beyond a traditional transactional finance position and develop their commercial and management accounting experience within an international organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts in line with the agreed month-end timetable.
  • Prepare supporting month-end packs and schedules for Finance Director review.
  • Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and post accruals, prepayments and other month-end journals.
  • Review the trial balance and investigate unusual, incorrect or outstanding balances.
  • Ensure ledgers and reconciliations are complete and accurate ahead of month-end close.
  • Investigate and resolve queries arising from the monthly accounts.
  • Take responsibility for monthly management accounts and supporting schedules for designated Group entities.
  • Manage the purchase ledger and ensure supplier invoices are processed accurately.
  • Reconcile supplier accounts and investigate outstanding items.
  • Prepare supplier payment runs.
  • Manage client invoicing, ensuring invoices are raised accurately and on time.
  • Maintain the sales ledger and take ownership of credit control and cash collection.
  • Liaise with project teams to obtain information required for client billing.
  • Complete bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Review and process employee expenses.
  • Review timesheets and follow up outstanding submissions where required.
  • Set up new projects and contracts within the finance system.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Support the Finance Director with financial reporting, analysis and wider finance matters.

About You:

Essential

  • Minimum four years' experience in an accounting or finance role.
  • Experience preparing accounts through to trial balance, including month-end journals, balance sheet reconciliations and management accounts.
  • Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel and general accounting systems experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to completing work.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to work to monthly deadlines.
  • Able to work independently, take ownership of tasks and see them through to completion.
  • Confident communicator, comfortable liaising with colleagues, clients and suppliers.
  • AAT qualified, ACCA/ACA part-qualified, or equivalent practical accounting experience.

Desirable

  • Previous accountancy practice experience, particularly for candidates looking to make their first move into industry.
  • Experience working with multiple entities.
  • Exposure to international accounting, particularly US and/or UAE entities.
  • Experience within professional services, architecture, design or another project-based environment.
  • Experience using Deltek Vision and/or Vantagepoint.

Skills:

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
  • Excellent numerical ability and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Highly organised, methodical and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Confident working independently and taking ownership of key processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively to tight monthly deadlines.
  • Proactive approach with a focus on accuracy, accountability and continuous improvement.

The Opportunity:

This is a broad accounting position offering significantly more responsibility and exposure than a traditional transactional finance role. Working directly with the Finance Director, you will take ownership of key accounting processes and monthly reporting, with exposure to an international Group operating across multiple territories. For someone moving from accountancy practice into industry, this role provides an excellent opportunity to build commercial and management accounting experience, with scope to take on greater responsibility as the position develops.
