Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK at the time of application. Proof of eligibility to work in the UK will be required prior to employment commencing.

Job Purpose: Responsible for the collating of all information and arranging payment of duties and VAT to HMRC to enable Customs release of consignment.

Main Duties:

  • To prepare quotations for new accounts involving customs clearance.
  • To complete Customs entries on internal systems and submit to HMRC.
  • Raise customer files, collecting and completing all documentation prior to release and/or delivery of consignment.
  • Securing any payments cleared funds for COD accounts prior to release and/or delivery of consignment.
  • Secure payment cleared funds for duty/VAT invoices prior to release and delivery of consignment.
  • To negotiate and agree haulage and delivery prices with suppliers.
  • To organise and arrange deliveries as per customer requirements.
  • Processing and checking of invoices.
  • Collate documents from customers prior to vessel arrival that will allow expedited clearance.
  • Sales invoicing to be completed in a timely manner.
  • Filing and archiving job files once completed.
  • Liaising and cooperating with HMRC, Border Force and any other relevant Government Departments on queries.
  • Responding to and dealing with customer communication on all relevant platforms.
  • Maintaining customer relationships and ensuring the highest quality of customer service experience.
  • For the purpose of efficiency and personal development the post holder will be required to undertake any training as is deemed necessary by either their manager/HR Department or themselves (subject to authorisation).

Qualifications:

  • GCSE Education or equivalent, including English and Maths.

Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience working within an import, sea freight customs environment both internationally and GB/NI.
  • Must have experience on HMRC Customs Clearance and CNSonline system.
  • Experience of using Customs clearance software.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of the freight forwarding industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of the preparation and completion of import customs entries.

Skills and abilities:

  • Strong administration and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • IT Literate with a good knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
