We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Mechanical Fitter to join an established engineering business based in Plymouth.
This is an exciting opportunity for a time-served Mechanical Fitter with experience in automation, machinery assembly and commissioning.
You will be responsible for assembling and fitting mechanical equipment to a high standard, working from engineering drawings and supporting projects through to testing and commissioning.
The role is primarily based in Plymouth, with regular travel to customer sites across the UK and occasionally overseas, so flexibility to travel is essential.
Key Responsibilities Carry out mechanical assembly and fitting tasks to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
Work accurately from engineering drawings, layouts and specifications.
Understand and apply limits, fits and tolerances when assembling components.
Work closely with Project Managers and commissioning teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently.
Identify potential issues during the assembly process and take steps to minimise project risk.
Mark up and record any modifications or changes to components and engineering drawings.
Test and challenge equipment to ensure it meets customer specifications before FAT and commissioning.
Provide regular progress updates to the Project Manager.
Support the achievement of equipment performance and OEE targets.
Take a lead role on selected projects, including supporting commissioning activities.
Support and mentor apprentices, ensuring work is completed safely and to the required quality standards.
Travel to customer sites to support installation, commissioning, training and equipment sign-off.
Represent the business professionally on customer sites and maintain strong customer relationships.
Keep Project Managers informed of progress, issues and planned activities.
Follow all relevant Safe Systems of Work and Health & Safety procedures.
About You We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter who is confident working independently as well as as part of a wider engineering team.
You will ideally have: Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter / Mechanical Engineer.
A time-served engineering background or relevant mechanical qualification.
Experience working with automation, machinery or special-purpose equipment.
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Good understanding of mechanical assembly, fits and tolerances.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Project Managers and engineering teams.
The confidence to work directly with customers when required.
Experience of installation and commissioning would be advantageous.
Previous experience mentoring or supervising apprentices would be beneficial.
Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas.
