TPP Recruitment is supporting a prestigious professional membership and awarding organisation to recruit a Head of Assessment, to provide strategic leadership for high-stakes professional examinations within a healthcare setting. Working closely with senior clinical stakeholders, examination boards and regulatory bodies, you will lead the assessment agenda, ensuring examinations remain valid, robust, evidence-based and fit for purpose. The role combines assessment leadership, quality assurance, regulatory engagement and team management, offering significant influence across the organisation's assessment strategy and future development.

Salary: £68,280 per annum

Employment type: Permanent

Working arrangements: Hybrid – minimum of 4 days per month office based (London)

Working pattern: Full‑time, 35 hours per week

About the Role:

As Head of Assessment, you will act as the organisation's lead assessment professional, providing expert leadership across assessment design, quality assurance, standard setting, examiner development and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with senior internal and external stakeholders, including examination boards, committees, clinicians and regulators, ensuring assessment programmes reflect current best practice and are supported by robust quality assurance processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the strategic development and continuous improvement of assessment activities
  • Overseeing assessment design, development and review processes
  • Maintaining and enhancing quality assurance frameworks across examinations
  • Leading standard setting and result determination processes
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory and professional requirements
  • Building strong relationships with clinicians, subject matter experts and external stakeholders
  • Leading assessment-related change initiatives and innovation
  • Monitoring developments in assessment practice and implementing evidence-based improvements
  • Presenting proposals, reports and recommendations to committees, boards and governance groups
  • Managing and developing a specialist assessment team
  • Contributing to wider organisational strategy and business planning
  • Deputising for the Director of Examinations when required

Skills / Experience Required:

  • Significant experience leading assessment activities within a professional, educational or regulatory environment
  • Expertise in assessment design and development
  • Experience implementing and overseeing assessment quality assurance processes
  • Knowledge of standard setting, assessment validity and defensibility
  • Previous experience leading and developing teams
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to communicate complex assessment concepts to a range of audiences
  • Strong project and programme management capability
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
