The Role

As Tax Manager, you will take responsibility for managing a diverse portfolio of personal tax clients, providing a high level of service and delivering proactive tax advice. You will also coordinate the tax team, review work and support the development of junior members, while working closely with the accounts and bookkeeping teams to provide a joined-up service to clients.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a diverse portfolio of personal tax clients
  • Overseeing the preparation and submission of personal tax returns
  • Reviewing tax computations and ensuring work is accurate and compliant
  • Identifying tax planning opportunities and providing proactive advice
  • Managing client meetings, calls and advisory discussions
  • Acting as a trusted point of contact for clients and developing long-term relationships
  • Coordinating workloads and ensuring tax deadlines are met
  • Supporting billing and business reporting
  • Liaising with HMRC regarding enquiries, disclosures, investigations and compliance matters
  • Working closely with the accounts and bookkeeping teams to identify opportunities to add value
  • Reviewing and providing constructive feedback on junior team members' work
  • Supporting the training, mentoring and development of the wider tax team
  • Keeping up to date with changes in UK tax legislation and ensuring advice remains technically robust
  • Embracing technology and identifying opportunities to improve processes and efficiency

Requirements

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will likely have:

  • CTA or ATT qualified
  • At least 5 years' post-qualification experience within an accountancy practice
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK personal taxation
  • Proven experience managing a portfolio of personal tax clients
  • Experience reviewing work and supporting the development of junior team members
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills
  • Experience dealing with HMRC enquiries and tax compliance matters
  • Good organisational and workload management skills
  • A proactive and commercially minded approach
  • Comfortable using Xero, QuickBooks and other cloud-based practice software
  • An interest in technology, automation and improving ways of working
