We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified General Practice Accountant to join our independent accounting firm in Colchester. This role is central to delivering exceptional financial services to a diverse portfolio of clients across various industries.

As a General Practice Accountant, you will manage full-cycle accounting functions, including financial reporting, tax compliance, and client advisory services.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with UK GAAP and IFRS standards.
  • Manage end-to-end client accounting cycles, including bookkeeping, reconciliations, and ledger maintenance.
  • Prepare and file VAT returns, PAYE, and CT600 tax returns with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Deliver precise tax computations and support corporate and personal tax planning initiatives.
  • Engage directly with clients to collect financial data, resolve discrepancies, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Support audit and assurance engagements through internal reviews and coordination with external auditors.
  • Assist in preparing management accounts and financial analysis to inform client decision-making.
  • Stay current with evolving tax legislation, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities for value-added services.
  • Mentor junior team members and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality client work.
Requirements
  • Qualified ACA or ACCA with proven experience in general practice accounting.
  • Circa 3 years of post-qualification experience in a reputable accounting firm.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK tax legislation, including VAT, Corporation Tax, and PAYE.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or equivalent.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and time management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a client-first approach.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites within Sudbury, Suffolk, Colchester and surrounding areas.
