This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced private client tax professional to take ownership of a varied portfolio while working closely with high-net-worth individuals, business owners and complex private clients. The role offers a strong blend of compliance and advisory work alongside team leadership responsibilities and genuine progression opportunities.

The Role

As a Private Client Tax Assistant Manager, you will manage your own portfolio of private clients while supporting the wider team through reviewing work, mentoring junior staff and delivering advisory projects. This is a highly client-facing role requiring strong technical expertise alongside excellent communication and relationship management skills.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a varied portfolio of private clients, including high-net-worth individuals, partnerships and property owners
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for clients and professional advisors
  • Preparing and reviewing self-assessment tax returns and tax computations
  • Reviewing work prepared by junior members of the team and providing coaching and technical support
  • Delivering advisory work across areas such as capital gains tax, inheritance tax, trusts, incorporations and EIS/VCT/SEIS planning
  • Supporting clients with residence, domicile and international tax matters
  • Handling HMRC enquiries, settlements and correspondence
  • Assisting with client meetings and presenting technical matters clearly to non-tax specialists
  • Managing WIP, billing and portfolio profitability
  • Supporting business development activities and identifying opportunities to add value to clients

Requirements

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will likely have:

  • ATT and/or CTA qualification
  • Strong experience within private client tax in a UK accountancy practice
  • Excellent technical knowledge across UK personal tax compliance and advisory work
  • Experience advising high-net-worth individuals, owner-managed businesses and complex private clients
  • Exposure to trusts, CGT, IHT and international tax matters
  • Proven experience reviewing work and mentoring junior staff
  • Strong communication and client relationship management skills
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing fees, WIP and identifying advisory opportunities
  • The ability to manage multiple client matters effectively and work to deadlines
