Working as part of a close-knit team, you will gain exposure to a broad range of accounting and tax work while developing your technical knowledge and client management skills.

The Role

As a Semi Senior Accountant / Tax Advisor, you will support a varied client portfolio including sole traders, partnerships, SMEs, and limited companies. You will work closely with senior management, taking ownership of your work while building strong client relationships and contributing to the continued success of the firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing year-end accounts under FRS102 1A and FRS105.
  • Preparing management accounts and VAT returns.
  • Preparing corporation tax returns, including capital allowances computations.
  • Preparing personal tax returns covering employment income, self-employment, rental income, pensions, investments, and overseas property income.
  • Completing Capital Gains Tax computations for property and share disposals.
  • Assisting with trust tax returns and inheritance tax work where applicable.
  • Preparing working papers and ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are completed accurately.
  • Completing bookkeeping assignments and ad hoc accounting work.
  • Supporting clients with cloud accounting systems including Xero, QuickBooks, and Dext.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships as a key point of contact.
  • Keeping up to date with UK accounting standards and tax legislation.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems, and the overall client experience.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • ACA, ACCA, or AAT part qualification, or be recently qualified.
  • At least 2 to 3 years' experience within an accountancy practice environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax compliance.
  • Experience preparing accounts for SMEs, limited companies, and owner-managed businesses.
  • Experience preparing personal and corporation tax returns.
  • Familiarity with cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Dext.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • A proactive and technology-focused approach to accounting.
  • The confidence to work independently and take ownership of client work.
  • An interest in tax and a desire to pursue ATT or further tax qualifications would be advantageous.
