Job Description:

Role Overview

The Chief Risk Officer (CRO), Energy & Commodities will serve as a strategic partner to the Division’s leadership, embedding risk management into both long-term planning and day-to-day decision-making. This senior leader will provide oversight of all risk-related matters across the Division, ensuring alignment with the Group’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) while maintaining a proactive stance on emerging risks, regulatory obligations, and risk appetite. Acting as a trusted advisor, the CRO will drive the identification, evaluation, and mitigation of risks across trading, operational, regulatory, and change management activities, while leading Division-level governance forums and contributing to global risk committees. They will champion a culture of risk awareness, ensuring transparency, timely reporting, and accountability across all levels of the business.

The CRO will lead and inspire a global team of risk professionals, providing strategic direction while overseeing key risk indicators, issue remediation, and input into new business initiatives, M&A activity, and product development. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in risk management within the Energy & Commodities markets, strong understanding of electronic and algorithmic trading environments, and the ability to engage credibly with senior stakeholders and regulators. As part of the senior Risk Leadership Team, the CRO will play a key role in shaping the function’s vision and operating model, while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is a highly visible and commercially oriented leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape risk strategy across a dynamic and fast-paced global division.

Please note: While the role is listed as being based in London, we are open to considering candidates located in other TP ICAP Group office locations, depending on the suitability of the individual and business needs.

Role Responsibilities

Serve as a trusted advisor to the Division’s executive leadership, offering expert risk management insight on strategic, operational, and commercial matters to support well-informed, forward-looking decision-making.

Build collaborative and respectful relationships with leaders and colleagues across the Division, embedding a proactive risk culture into everyday business activities and decision-making processes.

Partner closely with business teams to manage end-to-end risks within the Division, ensuring alignment with the Group’s risk appetite. Proactively review, challenge, and strengthen the Division’s risk profile, ensuring all material risks are identified and effectively mitigated.

Champion the implementation and consistent operation of the Group’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) across the Division, supporting shared accountability and sustainable risk practices.

Lead the Division’s risk governance structure, chairing or contributing to forums and committees responsible for risk oversight, and participating in global governance activities that reflect the interconnected nature of enterprise risk.

Ensure timely, accurate, and transparent risk reporting to Division Executive Management, the Group Risk function, and other internal governance bodies, enabling informed oversight and action.

Lead the Division’s processes for risk identification, evaluation, and ongoing assessment—actively tracking emerging risks and promoting a culture of early escalation and shared accountability.

Oversee the remediation of risk events, coordinating effective action planning, issue tracking, and risk acceptances, while encouraging open discussion and continuous improvement.

Monitor the Division’s risk profile using a robust framework of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), ensuring that thresholds are meaningful, inclusive, and aligned to business context.

Provide constructive challenge and strategic oversight for business growth activities, including new initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, transformation projects, and product innovation, ensuring risks are understood and managed from the outset.

Contribute to the Group’s Risk Assurance programme by supporting thematic reviews, deep dives, and follow-ups that help strengthen the Division’s control environment and resilience.

Ensure the Division’s full compliance with applicable regulatory requirements related to risk management, working collaboratively with internal teams to prepare clear, accurate, and timely regulatory submissions.

Provide clear, empowering leadership to the Division’s risk team—creating an inclusive, values-driven environment where colleagues can thrive, contribute fully, and grow their careers.

Represent the Division in internal and external forums as a senior member of the Risk Leadership Team, offering thought leadership on risk matters and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion across the function.

Provide leadership and operational support to the broader Group Risk function and the Group CRO as needed, contributing flexibly to cross-divisional or enterprise-wide initiatives.

Act as the senior risk leader for the assigned region, applying the responsibilities above with a regional lens and serving as a trusted point of contact for regional leadership and stakeholders.

Experience / Competences

Extensive experience in senior risk leadership within a global organisation, ideally in financial services, commodities, or a regulated environment, with a track record of delivering risk oversight in complex, fast-paced settings.

Deep knowledge of enterprise and operational risk management frameworks, with the ability to assess, challenge, and improve risk profiles across diverse business areas.

Proven understanding of the Energy & Commodities market, including product structures, trading activities, and associated risks.

Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with proven ability to influence, advise, and collaborate with senior executives, board members, and global peers.

Demonstrated experience leading and developing diverse, high-performing teams, including across multiple locations and time zones, fostering an inclusive and supportive team culture.

Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex risk concepts to technical and non-technical audiences alike.

Strategic and analytical mindset, able to navigate ambiguity, synthesise information quickly, and make sound risk-based recommendations.

Hands-on and collaborative leadership style, combining strategic insight with a willingness to engage in operational detail when needed.

Commercial acumen, with a solid grasp of business drivers and how risk management supports sustainable commercial success.

Undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field such as finance, economics, risk, law, or business. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

Experience in a broker-dealer, trading, or market infrastructure environment, including familiarity with relevant regulations and control expectations.

Knowledge of electronic and algorithmic trading and the specific risk considerations they entail.

Experience with financial risk management frameworks, including credit, market, and liquidity risk.

Proficiency with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) platforms and risk analytics tools to support decision-making and reporting.

Postgraduate or professional qualifications in risk management (e.g. FRM, PRM, IRM) or related fields are welcomed but not required.

Active engagement with the risk management community and current on emerging practices, risks, and trends in the industry.

Commitment to continuous learning, inclusive leadership, and advancing equity and diversity in the workplace.
