This is an entry-level opportunity to join ICAP’s Sterling MIRS (Money Markets & Interest Rate Swaps) desk, offering hands-on exposure to the fast-paced and highly dynamic financial markets environment. As a Desk Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting brokers with the smooth and efficient running of the desk. The position provides foundational experience across trade support, market monitoring, and operational processes, forming a key entry point into the interdealer broking industry. While the role initially focuses on desk administration and trade support, there is a clear pathway to progress into a Trainee Broker position. Progression is based on consistent performance, development of market knowledge, and successful completion of relevant industry training.
This role is well suited to early-career candidates (e.g. recent school/college leavers or individuals seeking a second move) with a genuine interest in financial markets and a strong desire to build a long-term career in broking.
Key Responsibilities- Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to brokers on the Sterling MIRS desk.
- Accurately input and maintain trade data in internal trading systems in a timely manner.
- Monitor and reconcile trade details, investigating and resolving discrepancies with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate trade records, ensuring data integrity at all times.
- Update real-time electronic trading boards and systems with live market information.
- Support brokers by preparing and distributing trade runs and market updates.
- Actively monitor sterling interest rate markets (e.g. SONIA, short-term interest rate products) and stay informed on relevant financial and macroeconomic developments.
- Assist in identifying market trends and supporting brokers with pricing and trade-related queries where appropriate.
- Contribute to desk projects, reporting, and process improvements.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, accuracy, and confidentiality in all tasks.
- Represent TP ICAP Group positively, demonstrating strong alignment to its values and reputation.
- Educated to GCSE and/or A-Level standard (or equivalent).
- Demonstrable interest in financial markets, economics, and trading environments.
- Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in data handling.
- High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in Excel and general systems.
- Strong work ethic with a proactive approach and willingness to learn.
- Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
