We are looking for a Legal Counsel with experience in a design firm to join our legal team of four, supporting the business on professional appointments, contracts and related documentation. As we expand globally, this is an exciting time to join tp bennett and be a part of our ongoing journey.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating professional appointments and related contracts, including sub-consultant appointments, collateral warranties, novation agreements and non-disclosure agreements, while independently managing your own caseload.
- Providing clear, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice, with a strong understanding of the services delivered by the practice and the commercial context in which it operates.
- Identifying and assessing potential liabilities and commercial risks, and guiding the business on risk mitigation and exposure.
- Advising and supporting non-legal colleagues on legal and commercial matters, delivering training and promoting best practice across the business.
- Maintaining and developing the practice’s suite of standard form contracts, templates and in-house documentation.
- Liaising and negotiating with clients, their legal advisers, insurers and external counsel, protecting the practice’s interests while preserving positive working relationships and reputation.
- Assisting with the management of claims and potential disputes, working closely with insurers and external counsel, as well as supporting the recovery of unpaid fees.
Qualifications, experience, and skills:
- Qualified solicitor or barrister (or equivalent legal qualification or training).
- A minimum of 4 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE), ideally including in-house experience and/or exposure to the architecture, construction, engineering or professional services sectors.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to prepare and amend contractual documentation, negotiate appointments, and deliver clear, concise written and verbal advice.
- Excellent attention to detail, with the confidence and organisational skills to manage a varied workload and competing priorities under pressure.
- A proactive, flexible and collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team while promoting and protecting the practice’s legal and commercial interests.
