Toyota Motor Europe is looking for a Government Affairs Specialist to join its London office and support engagement with UK government, policymakers, trade associations, and key industry stakeholders.

The Toyota Motor Europe London office (TME-London) is in charge of Government and Corporate Affairs for the U.K. Our mission is to create a favourable environment for the industrial, commercial, technological and corporate activities of Toyota in the U.K. This includes establishing quality relations with policymakers, administrations, institutions, and other relevant stakeholders on issues related to the automotive industry.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Support TME London office by engaging with U.K. national and devolved Government, civil service, trade associations, NGOs and think tanks on subject matters relevant to the automotive industry.
  • Handle monitoring tasks, including daily political monitoring, supporting content selection for report-outs, consultation responses, attending meetings with trade associations.
  • Support with the external communication of corporate messages with wider 3rd party stakeholders.
  • Support a number of administrative tasks including budget control.

Team Role - In Depth:

  • Help strengthen and maximise Government affairs capacity in the UK in support of Toyota business objectives.
  • Help promote, protect, and defend Toyota’s corporate reputation in the UK.
  • Help promote a beneficial regulatory environment in support of Toyota’s environmental and technology leadership.
  • Help support the smooth operation and running of the Toyota Motor Europe London office and team activities.

Government Affairs:

  • Support with monitoring of political announcements and intelligence.
  • Monitor regulatory trends such as net zero & decarbonisation, carbon neutrality, electrification and new mobility trends.
  • Lead for developing ad-hoc reports such as Government speeches/national announcements.
  • Report and inform wider business on a regular basis.
  • Maintain political contact databases and support with delivering political promotional events.
  • Help coordinate Toyota’s corporate activities including preparation of presentations and speak-out events.

External Company Representation:

  • Support Toyota’s external affairs activities with key 3rd party industrial, policy and other key stakeholders.
  • Attend Parliamentary activities and reporting internally.

Budget Control and Office Support:

  • Support team budget control, including budget tracking, status reports and submission of forecasts.
  • Jointly support with office health and safety compliance and overall office management.

Your Profile:

  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in government, public affairs, policy, regulatory affairs or communication.
  • Fluent in English; any other European language is an asset.
  • Understanding of UK decision making process and governmental affairs practice.
  • Genuine interest for public policy, regulation-making, and politics.
  • Capable of using Microsoft O365 and making presentations.
  • Dynamic, efficient, accurate, objective driven and able to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and analytical mind.
  • Enjoy working in an international team and learning about new cultures.
  • Flexible, supportive, and adaptable to change.
  • Legally permitted to work in both the United Kingdom and the EU.

Place Of Employment: Central London (The City) with flexible office and home-based working arrangement. Some travel required within the UK and Europe.
