We are currently recruiting for a Developer (IT) to join our team in Shrewsbury. As a member of the Development Team, the primary objective is the enhancement and evolution of the organisation’s software systems, with a clear focus on delivering solutions that meet both user experience (UX) expectations and regulatory compliance standards. Working as part of a collaborative development team, you will design, build, and deploy new features and system enhancements that directly improve operational efficiency and service delivery across the organisation. You’ll work closely with frontline teams to understand real-world, day-to-day requirements, translating user needs into intuitive, practical solutions that make a genuine difference to how the business operates.
Responsibilities
- Contributing to the design and development of software features that improve system usability and performance, with a focus on both customer-facing interfaces and internal operational tools.
- Ensuring that all development work adheres to relevant FCA regulatory requirements, data protection laws, and internal governance policies.
- Participating in user experience (UX) reviews and incorporating feedback from frontline users to refine functionality and workflow design.
- Conducting thorough testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of both new and legacy systems to ensure stability, security, and compliance.
- Creation and implementation of new features for the company’s software systems.
- Testing new features in controlled development environments.
- Deploying new features/updates to the live system in a way that minimizes interruptions to end users.
- Ensuring new features are implemented securely and patching vulnerabilities discovered in existing systems.
- Maintaining and updating the existing software solutions.
- Effectively manage personal workload and priorities tasks to ensure projects are completed by deadlines.
- Collect feedback from end users and incorporate it into the development process.
- Understand the business as a whole and the industry it operates in.
- Presenting ideas for system improvements to senior staff and management.
- Independently keeping personal skill set and knowledge base up to date.
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
- Capability to understand and author effective changes using appropriate structures and languages within the system, including, but not limited to PHP, SQL, JavaScript, XML, HTML, CSS.
- High level of verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to suitable audiences.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft and development packages and internal IT systems.
- A basic understanding of the FCA and ICO regulatory regime.
