The Town of Shrewsbury, a full-service local government driven by high performance and creativity, seeks a skilled and motivated team member to join our Parks & Cemetery Maintenance Division within the Department of Public Works! Under the general supervision of the Parks & Cemetery Supervisor, you will perform a variety of essential tasks to maintain the beauty and safety of our parks and cemetery properties. From landscaping to snow plowing, and equipment operation to emergency responses, this role is a dynamic blend of hands-on work, problem-solving, and pride in your community. Whether you're mowing athletic fields, maintaining irrigation systems, or assisting residents, your work will directly impact the enjoyment and safety of the public.

Key Responsibilities- Operate a range of equipment: front-end loader, backhoe, dump truck, wood chipper, tractors, mowers, and more.
- Maintain athletic fields, including mowing, fertilizing, trimming, lining, and painting.
- Mark foundation locations for headstones and veterans’ markers.
- Maintain playgrounds and equipment for safety.
- Inspect and repair irrigation systems, including water lines and storm drains.
- Remove trash, clean restrooms, and keep parks and cemetery grounds pristine.
- Work with contractors to ensure the success of public works projects.
- Respond to snow emergencies, after-hours public works needs, and community-wide emergencies.
- Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, ensuring they’re always ready for action.
- Assist residents with inquiries and concerns related to roadway and public property issues.
- High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
- Class B Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License and Massachusetts 2B Hoisting Engineer’s License.
- Knowledge of landscaping methods, equipment operation, and state/local laws regarding safety and property maintenance.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-friendly attitude.
- Ability to handle emergency situations and be on-call as needed.
The hours are conveniently 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Monday through Friday, with overtime as required. A daily 30-minute lunch as agreed upon by the Parks & Cemetery Supervisor.
