JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse Unit Manager REPORTING TO: Deputy Manager RESPONSIBLE TO: Home Manager JOB PURPOSE: To promote, supervise and ensure that high standards of personal and nursing care are adhered to
under your responsibilities as a registered nurse (under NMC) To promote and ensure high standards of professional practise are maintained which are conducive to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual needs of the individuals To ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to throughout the service To provide person centred care in a safe, warm and friendly environment
in conjunction with Towerview visions and values To carry out the role of named nurse for designated individuals To implement the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in accordance with the Care standards Act 2000 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS Required Hold a current nursing registration with active PIN Number with the Nursing Midwifery Council Working knowledge of the Care Quality Commission and Single Assessment Framework Up to date knowledge of the Health and Care Act, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act Working knowledge and application of Best Interest Assessments Experience of nursing people with mental health, dementia and complex physical healthneeds with behaviours that may challenge services Good working knowledge of medication and medication management Ability to communicate effectively on all levels Ability to manage own workload Ability to lead and direct a team as the nurse in charge Satisfactory DBS check Desirable Work based assessor / mentor (NVQ / Nursing) Knowledge of safeguarding processes Experience with CQC inspections Experience in supervision of care team (conducting clinical supervision and appraisals) Good working knowledge of GDPR processes Principle responsibilities Meeting and adhering to the NMC professional Code of Conduct Day to day running of the unit. To maintain professional integrity of the home and represent its interests in any dealings with other bodies, groups or individuals To ensure that the highest standards of care are applied by staff To co-operate with CQC inspector and inspections To supervise and carry out all nursing procedures to the standards expected by NICE guidelines and other associated best practice principles Promote and support effective communication throughout the home internally and externally Ensure training is attended and up to date Ensure revalidation and PIN remains in date Maintain infection prevention and control measures and procedures are followed Receive Clinical and Management supervision a minimum as per policy and NMC code Be responsible for medication ordering, stock control and auditing with the pharmacist in accordance with Health Authority Regulations Care and support of individuals To support in decision making ensuring appropriate capacity is known and appropriate support sourced if required To ensure that positive, therapeutic relationship are formed with all individuals whom you are caring for Have working knowledge of all individuals who you support care plans, risk assessments and treatment pathways in place To be an effective presence on the home with daily contribution to the care and support of individuals To promote relationships which enable each resident to participate in social activities both within the home and in the community supporting and directing good quality of life To ensure the provision of health care arrangements
access to GP, chiropodist, dentist, and other health care professionals To ensure the safe storage, management, and administration of all medications in accordance with legislation, CQC and Policies Maintain good / accurate written nursing care reports on all individuals daily care Ensure all records are filed correctly and securely Complete Safeguarding and CQC notifications as required Ensure that incidents and accidents are recorded and reported To undertake audits as directed by the Matron To undertake personal care to ensure that skin integrity is maintained at all times To ensure that on admission residents are checked and a body map completed and signed by the nurse in charge Unit Manager To complete reviews and risk management plans are up to date To implement and direct Resident of the Day during working day To effectively manage the care planning, risk assessment and treatment pathway for allocated individuals To communicate on with family, next of kin, person identified as important to the individual no less than once per month To spend weekly 1:1 time with your allocated individuals To ensure that all relevant documentation is completed and up to date for you allocated individuals To ensure all financial matters are managed appropriately and that the individual has the required and legal support needed Staff management To manage deployment of staff ensuring homes are adequately staffed To ensure staff have an effective induction into the home To complete Clinical Supervision of health care support staff within the team
ensuring staff education, knowledge and training is up to date To work alongside the staff team and provide support and leadership for staff To provide and support staff with training and skill development
maintaining training records nd support NVQ completion Ensure all team members are aware of any changes in care to be given, liaise with Matron on all changes implemented Premises and Service Be diligent in all aspects of health and safety polices (awareness of your responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974) and COSHH regulations, identify and record / report any concerns Participate in the implementation and maintenance of quality assurance policies and systems Respect and maintain confidentiality of all matters they may learn in the source of their employment. Under the requirements of the GDPR guidelines Ensure all internal and external audits are completed and any issues to be reported to the Home Manger and Matron. It is an expectation of all staff to have vaccines or other essential health treatments, in line with Public Health guidelines and in relation to health and safety in an effort to protect yourself as well as others. Infection Prevention & Control Infection prevention & control is everybodys responsibility, it is a requirement for all Towerview Care staff to comply with all the infection control policies and procedures. All Towerview Care staff should ensure that they fulfil their responsibilities for infection prevention and control, that they provide leadership where appropriate in infection control matters and that they challenge poor infection control practice in their workplace. All staff must adhere to Towerview Cares Hand Decontamination Policy All staff are expected to behave in a manner which protects residents, public and colleagues from infection risks within the scope of their role All staff should have infection control training at induction and annual infection control updates Health & Safety: Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a resident colleague, self, or another. Understand and ensure the implementation of Towerview Cares Health and Safety policy Emergency and Fire procedures. Report to the Home Manager, or Maintenance, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment, or any potential hazard Promote safe working practice in the Home General: Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties Notify the Home Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible of your inability to work, and on your return to work from all periods of absence Ensure the security of the Homes is always maintained Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you
