ROLE PURPOSE
The Bid Writer will support the Bid Manager to prepare high-quality, compelling and compliant submissions that help TTOL secure new business opportunities.
The role will focus on drafting, editing and coordinating tender responses for bus franchise, public transport and other tender opportunities, ensuring all written content is clear, customer-focused and submitted on time.
Working closely with the Bid Manager and internal subject-matter experts, the Bid Writer will gather information, develop tailored responses and maintain bid documents.
The role will support compliance with submission requirements, document control and the quality of final bid materials.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
A strong writer to support TTOL's bid writing and tender-submission activity for bus franchise and other opportunities. To be responsible for:
- Writing clear, compelling and compliant bid responses
- Editing, proofreading and improving tender documentation
- Working with the Bid Manager to follow the agreed bid plan, win themes and response timetable
- Gathering and coordinating content from operational and other internal stakeholders
- Checking tender requirements, word counts, document formats and mandatory response criteria
- Maintaining bid document control, action trackers and a library of approved content
- Supporting bid reviews, clarification responses and final submission preparation
- Researching customers, markets, local areas and service requirements to strengthen responses
- Supporting multiple concurrent bids and meeting critical deadlines..
SKILLS
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to make complex information clear, concise and persuasive
- Strong proofreading and attention-to-detail skills
- Skilled in bid writing, proposal writing or producing structured business documents
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage several response drafts and deadlines
- Ability to work with a range of stakeholders and obtain clear, accurate input
- Commercial awareness and an ability to focus on customer requirements and evaluation criteria
- Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Self-motivated individual who can work with volume of work (peaks and troughs) and at pace
- Can-do attitude along with an eye for detail
- Able to adapt own writing and communication style depending on audience and stakeholders involved
- Excellent planning and organisational skills with the tenacity to see projects through to conclusion.
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience in bid writing, proposal writing, tender support or technical writing
- Experience of working against tender questions, scoring criteria and submission requirements
- Experience of coordinating input from subject-matter experts is desirable
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Business, Marketing or a related field is desirable
- APMP or Shipley certification is desirable
- Experience in transport industry is preferred but not essential - we welcome talent from other sectors
