An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our client's talented team based at their head office in Lincoln. Our client is a privately owned business based in Lincoln with a reputation for delivering quality Civil Engineering projects within Lincolnshire and the surrounding areas, undertaking a range of interesting and diverse projects. They have been successful in securing numerous projects and have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Commercial Manager who will be responsible for overseeing the commercial aspects of a construction project, ensuring its financial success and managing contracts, budgets and procurement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Advise, mentor and monitor Quantity Surveyors of their roles and responsibilities including, but not limited to, contracts/orders, applications, certification, invoicing, payments, variations, sub-contractors, cost value reconciliation, final accounts, retentions and other processes.
- Ensure that all projects have a comprehensive application, completed accurately and on time, as per the client's requirements.
- Ensure that all applications are certified, invoiced and paid by the due date.
- Ensure that all application details are added to the workload spreadsheet.
- Update the workload spreadsheet regularly with current projects, upcoming projects and likelihood of tender success to enable reporting on workload forecast.
- Collate cost value reconciliations and report on profitability of projects, on a monthly basis, highlighting trends in estimator, contract teams, labour and type of project.
- Highlight any issues noted in CVR collation and be instrumental in resolution.
- Manage and implement retention release when due.
- Upon review of current and projected workload, implement recruitment where necessary to manage.
- Allocate QS resource to upcoming work.
- Arrange and chair monthly commercial meetings. Pertinent agenda to be produced and minutes taken and issued.
- Liaise with the senior management team to discuss current rates, uplifts, strategy and work streams.
- Be aware of the tender opportunities being considered in the estimating department by attending the weekly tender meeting.
- Attend adjudication meetings for tenders and contribute constructively to agree the submission.
- Attend monthly contract reviews to understand progress and commercial position on all contracts.
- Complete employee performance reviews for commercial and estimating departments on a yearly basis.
- Liaise with SHEQ Manager to strategically improve procedures by reviewing and developing operational processes.
- Identify, assess and mitigate potential risks related to project finances, contracts and procurement.
- Stay aware and keep up to date with the latest trends and developments such as competitors.
Person Requirements:
- Previous experience of managing civil engineering and building contracts.
- Experience in the supervision of multiple projects including civils and earthworks.
- Experience in all aspects of project controls and planning.
- Knowledge of NEC4 contracts or similar.
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant Professional qualifications (e.g., RICS, CIOB) are advantageous.
- Knowledge of construction software and tools (e.g., Construction Manager, Conquest) are advantageous.
- Experience of building strong relationships with clients, employees, contract partners, Local Councils and Authorities.
- Demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Full UK Driving licence.
Package:
- Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.00pm.
