About the role

Join Our Team in the Through Care Service and Housing Options Support Team (HOST) to empower young lives as a Through Care Housing Advisor working with young individuals who have been in care. You will provide guidance and support in areas such as housing, education, employment, and life skills. You will work with their social workers and personal advisors. You will develop personal housing plans to meet each young person’s unique needs, collaborating with a dynamic team of professionals to create a supportive network. You will advocate for the rights and well-being of young persons in care and undertake statutory casework under the Homelessness Reduction Act and provide a timely and proactive response to end and prevent them becoming homeless.

You should be a confident, experienced, and adaptable self-starter, able to work proactively and on your own initiative. You will relish the opportunity to instigate and deliver a service and will be comfortable with working at the forefront of change within a team that is target and goal driven. As well as having knowledge of homelessness, social care, public health and Children’s Act, you will be empathetic to the various support needs and challenges of young people and committed to helping care leavers. You must have worked in a local authority homelessness service and voluntary homelessness sector and are interested in taking on more responsibility and a new challenge in the sector.

Responsibilities

  • Work with young people who have been in care to provide housing-related support and guidance across housing, education, employment, and life skills.
  • Develop personal housing plans in collaboration with the young person, social workers, and personal advisors.
  • Provide guidance and support while coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to create a supportive network.
  • Advocate for the rights and well-being of looked-after children and care leavers.
  • Undertake statutory casework under the Homelessness Reduction Act and provide timely, proactive responses to end and prevent homelessness.
  • Apply knowledge of homelessness legislation and local authority duties; manage complex caseloads.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration in a diverse community.
  • Be flexible and creative in finding solutions to end and prevent street homelessness.
  • Contribute to the development of a high-quality Through Care Housing Advisory service within HOST.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a local authority homelessness service and/or the voluntary homelessness sector.
  • Good working knowledge of homelessness legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2018, and experience supporting care leavers with housing-related issues.
  • Strong understanding of statutory responsibilities of local authorities and issues affecting looked-after children and care leavers.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills in diverse communities.
  • Ability to work flexibly, take initiative, and deliver services proactively in a target-driven environment.
