Shared Lives Carer – Join Tower Hamlets Shared Lives
Tower Hamlets Shared Lives (THSL) is seeking caring individuals from all parts of our community to become paid Shared Lives Carers and make a meaningful difference to the lives of vulnerable adults in Tower Hamlets.
THSL provides a community‑based alternative to traditional care for adults with a learning disability.
Through Shared Lives, a person lives, stays, or spends time with a Carer, using the Carer’s home as a safe and supportive base.
Our aim is simple: to help each person maintain their independence, build confidence, and live a full and connected life.
- Types of Shared Lives Support
- We are currently recruiting Shared Lives Carers for the following roles:
- Long Term Placement
- Someone lives with you as part of your family or personal network.
- Weekly income: £600–£800 per person (includes care fees, rent, and utilities).
- Respite Support
- Someone stays with you overnight or for short periods.
- Payment: £82–£106 per night per person.
- Day Support
- Spend a day or a few hours each week supporting someone in the community.
- Payment: Earn up to £93.80 for providing 6 hours of support per person.
- You must live in or near Tower Hamlets to provide day support.
- Shared Lives Carers can support up to three people at a time.
- What You’ll Need
- At least one spare bedroom for long‑term or respite support (day support does not require a spare room).
- Be 21 or older.
- Be a full‑time UK resident or have leave to remain (we cannot provide visa sponsorship).
- If offering long‑term or respite support, you may live outside Tower Hamlets.
- What Shared Lives Carers Do
- Cooking, shopping, budgeting, and other practical tasks.
- Personal care (washing, dressing, taking medication) – this is not a requirement to become a Carer.
- Building friendships and staying connected to family.
- Accessing community activities, education, training, employment, or volunteering.
