Tower Hamlets is on the lookout for a dynamic Operations Fleet Compliance Officer to join the Waste Services team and take charge of the vehicle fleet, ensuring rigorous compliance with statutory Operator’s Licence requirements. You will work in close partnership with the Council’s Corporate Fleet Manager, tackling the scheduling of maintenance, coordinating repairs, guaranteeing safety standards, and keeping meticulous records for every vehicle’s condition, history, and use.

You will manage a Transport Co-Ordinator and together provide in-service expertise and insight, ensuring the availability, safe and efficient use of the Waste Services’ fleet to deliver an excellent service throughout the borough. You will manage the introduction of new vehicles into the service such as forthcoming underground refuse storage collection vehicles, mechanical sweepers and electric vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning, scheduling and tracking of regular vehicle inspections, maintenance and repair.
  • Auditing vehicle repair and maintenance records, evaluating the cost-effectiveness of maintenance or repair options and identifying any under-performance, potential safety issues, irregular patterns and misuse or abuse issues.
  • Maintaining waste services fleet and driver related administrative procedures and record keeping meeting vehicle operating policies and statutory requirements.
  • Maintaining a programme of driver assessments, training and drivers’ licence checks.
  • Training and assessment of drivers at all levels from non LGV up to LGV including on specialist equipment.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with vehicle service providers and parts suppliers and assist with the compilation of vehicle specifications to aid the procurement of new vehicles to meet the needs of service.
About You

You will bring or hold:

  • Strong understanding of UK transport regulations, including driver hours, tachograph requirements, vehicle inspections, and safety standards.
  • Understanding of Waste Operations services and operational fleet availability and servicing requirements.
  • Proven experience in a Transport Compliance or Fleet Management role, preferably within the waste industry.
  • A valid full LGV driving licence (Category C).
  • A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Transport Management or be working towards achievement within one year of taking up the post.
  • Excellent communication, relationship management, and problem-solving abilities.
