Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counselling interventions for clients with mild to moderate common mental health problems.
- Use a stepped care approach and work with clients presenting with depression and anxiety for which counselling is clinically effective.
- Monitor performance and outcomes in conjunction with the stream lead.
- Conduct triage assessments as required, dedicating a portion of clinical contact hours to triage.
- Deliver assessments via face‑to‑face, telephone or other approved communication mediums.
Working Arrangement
- Hybrid working is offered. A minimum of one working day per week is required at the office or designated East London Trust Foundation community sites, with possible changes in future.
Essential Qualifications
- Diploma in Person‑Centred Counselling or equivalent.
- Registration or accreditation with BACP/UKCP (or eligibility to pursue accreditation) and willingness to undertake NHS Talking Therapies training in Counselling for Depression if requested.
- Experience delivering a variety of counselling interventions within Primary Care Services or equivalent short‑term therapy services.
- Experience conducting triage and assessments and devising appropriate treatment plans.
- Significant experience delivering counselling to patients with common mental health difficulties, especially depression.
- Experience with partnership working.
- Proficiency with IT systems (preferably IAPTUS) for case recording, case management and supervision.
- Experience developing and running groups at Step 2/2.5 level within a Primary Care Service.
- Experience working with a multi‑cultural client group and using interpreters.
- Skills in assessing and managing risk, generating risk management plans as per service policies.
- Ability to develop and maintain a therapeutic alliance.
- Strong team‑working, pressure management, liaison and networking capabilities.
- Proficient IT skills, including word processing and patient administration systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Understanding of legislation and its implications for clinical practice, including safeguarding and mental health law.
- Familiarity with NHS policies, procedures and guidelines.
