London · full-time · reports to the co-founders. You will be the hands-on technical lead for full-stack delivery, cloud operations and security at Towards AI Deployment, and the main technical counterpart for our clients' IT and security teams. You build production software for private equity-backed businesses and financial firms, and make sure everything we ship and run meets a standard we can evidence to any enterprise security team. You do not need AI in your title: our AI engineers lead on models, retrieval and evaluation; you lead on the product, infrastructure, security and integration that put their work into production.

Technical Lead, Platform & Security
London · full-time · reports to the co-founders. You will be the hands-on technical lead for full-stack delivery, cloud operations and security at Towards AI Deployment, and the main technical counterpart for our clients' IT and security teams. You build production software for private equity-backed businesses and financial firms, and make sure everything we ship and run meets a standard we can evidence to any enterprise security team. You do not need AI in your title: our AI engineers lead on models, retrieval and evaluation; you lead on the product, infrastructure, security and integration that put their work into production.
What you will do
- Discovery and technical planning with client IT teams: scope, architecture, estimates and milestones around their workflows, data and systems.
- Full-stack products (frontend applications, Python services, APIs, databases, background jobs) integrated with enterprise stacks: identity and SSO, ERP, CRM, finance and service-desk systems, data platforms.
- Cloud delivery and production operations: infrastructure as code, containers, separate environments, CI/CD, monitoring, incident response, backups and tested recovery.
- Security across client delivery and our own engineering, from a documented improvement plan: OWASP and ASVS secure development, enterprise identity and access, hardening to Cyber Essentials Plus readiness, AI and agent security, an ISO/IEC 27001-aligned ISMS, UK GDPR work with client legal teams.
- Architecture documentation, handover, procurement security reviews and technical due diligence; mentoring engineers and the deployment templates and review workflows the team builds to.
How we build with AI
Daily, expert use of Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar agentic tools is non-negotiable; engineers who work this way outpace the rest by a wide margin, and that gap is the bar. We expect intelligent supervision: you give the agent the right context, constrain the task, run the tests, catch weak assumptions and take control back when needed. You never ship what you don't understand, and you build the tooling (skills, MCP servers, eval harnesses) that makes the team faster.
Who we are looking for
A senior engineer who has run real production systems and earns the trust of enterprise IT and security teams: you can build the product, harden the infrastructure underneath it and walk a client's security team through both.
Required
- Full-stack delivery across frontend, backend, databases and deployment, with strong Python and production TypeScript (React, Next.js or comparable).
- Systems administration as part of running production (Linux, Entra ID, Active Directory or Okta, networking, DNS, patching, backups) and production cloud on AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Integration work inside established enterprise IT estates, within client architecture, security-review and change-control processes.
- Hands-on application and cloud security (OWASP, Cyber Essentials, ISO/IEC 27001 or comparable), including the risks introduced by coding agents and their providers.
- Expert daily use of coding agents as your normal workflow, with agent access to client data and production restricted and sensitive actions approved by a human; you will show us.
- Leading technical discussions with client IT, engineering, security and business teams on architecture, risk, estimates and delivery decisions.
- Typically 10+ years in enterprise software with hands-on ownership of production systems.
- Useful: production AI systems or MCP integrations; Microsoft 365, SharePoint, ServiceNow, Salesforce or SAP; Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 42001 or SOC 2 programmes; consulting, financial services or PE-backed companies.
Level and growth
A lead role: you own platform, operations and security across engagements and set the standard our engineers build to. As the practice grows, it grows into the engineering leadership of the deployment business or a wider assurance remit across our clients' portfolios.
What every role gets
- Location: our London office, fully in person, with flexibility when you need it; some travel to clients in the UK and abroad.
- Right to work: you need the right to work in the UK before you start; for exceptional candidates we can sponsor a visa.
- Pay: a market-rate base calibrated to the level, plus a potential performance bonus.
- Tools: team plans on Claude Code and Codex; Granola, Notion, Slack and Linear; the Towards AI curriculum.
- We hire for talent, curiosity and character, and want a team where people of every background can do their best work.
How we hire
Two to three rounds depending on the role, 45 minutes each; we aim for about three weeks from first conversation to offer: a conversation with two co-founders about what you have built and how you build with AI; a take-home case capped at five hours, delivered as a repo, then a debrief where you present it (no live coding tests); for strategists and enablement leads, a live case or workshop in our London office where possible; then a call with one of our co-CEOs to make the offer, subject to two references and right to work.
About Towards AI Deployment
Towards AI Deployment is the build side of Towards AI Inc., the AI deployment and education firm founded in 2019 (500,000+ practitioners trained, a 200,000+ newsletter, the O'Reilly book Building LLMs for Production). We go into private equity firms, portfolio companies and finance firms and ship AI systems they can actually run: not pilots that quietly die, but tools that hold up in production and change how the business works. We are 20+ people, with experience from Palantir, BCG, UBS, J.P. Morgan, SAP and Mila.
