The role
This is a systems role first. You will architect the core platform from scratch and own the decisions that everything else gets built on: reliability, concurrency, multi-tenancy, data isolation and disaster recovery. You choose the stack. You shape the engineering culture. You work directly with a hands-on CTO.
This is not a ticket-taker role with a task list. You will be handed hard problems, not specs.
- On-sale traffic spikes: 50,000 people clicking buy at the same moment
- Real-time inventory locking that never oversells and never deadlocks
- Multi-tenant architecture with strict data isolation between clients
- Idempotent payment flows that stay correct under retries and failures
- A platform designed to scale from day one without being over-engineered on day one
What we are looking for
- Exceptional systems thinking. You reason about architecture from first principles: consistency models, failure modes, back-pressure, what breaks at 100x load
- Experience building high-concurrency transactional systems (payments, fintech, ticketing, marketplaces, or similar)
- Roughly 5 to 8 years of dense, hands-on backend and infrastructure work
- You have been an early engineer at a startup that scaled, or built something of your own
- You ship independently. Given a problem and a deadline, you design the solution and deliver it
- You use AI coding agents daily and treat them as a force multiplier, not a novelty
