The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Head Receptionist to join our Front Office team at the beautiful Inn on the Lake, Ullswater.

As Head Receptionist, you will play a key role in the smooth day-to-day running of our busy hotel reception, leading by example and ensuring every guest receives a warm welcome and exceptional service throughout their stay.

Working closely with the hotel’s management team, you will support and develop the reception team, oversee daily operations and help deliver a seamless guest experience. With a busy hotel operation alongside weddings, private functions and events throughout the year, this is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are quite the same.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supervising and supporting the reception team, ensuring a professional and welcoming service at all times.
• Overseeing daily reception operations, including guest check-ins, check-outs, reservations and enquiries.
• Coordinating daily arrivals, departures, special requests and guest requirements.
• Training, coaching and supporting team members to maintain high standards of service and develop their skills.
• Handling guest feedback, enquiries and complaints professionally, finding appropriate solutions.
• Working closely with housekeeping, Food & Beverage and the wider hotel team to ensure smooth communication and guest service.
• Supporting the management team with departmental targets, administrative duties and daily procedures.
• Ensuring accurate handling of payments, cash, billing and company procedures.

What We’re Looking For:

• Previous experience working within a busy hotel reception, ideally in a supervisory or senior receptionist role.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a genuine passion for hospitality.
• Confidence in leading, motivating and supporting a team.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment.
• A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail.
• The ability to remain calm, professional and solution-focused when handling guest enquiries or unexpected situations.
• Experience using hotel reservation systems, ideally Rezlynx, would be an advantage.
• Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including early, late and weekend shifts.
