Role Overview
Touchlight is currently seeking a Health & Safety Officer to join our Continuous Improvement team. The position will be part time (60% FTE). This is an exciting, fast-paced environment suited to initiative-taking individuals who can contribute to the safety of all personnel and promote a positive H&S culture in our workplace. Fire Marshal and first aid training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring that all H&S policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated. Making sure that accurate H&S training records and online H&S training program are maintained
- Ensuring that all accidents/near misses are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented. Gathering, analysing and reporting on key H&S data/statistics (KPIs)
- Assessing risk and potential hazards across the site and completing risk assessments
- Hosting H&S meetings with lab representatives and reporting back to the manager
- Liaising with external H&S and OH consultants in the provision of training programmes and more general H&S services
- Ensuring that safety inspections and audits are conducted, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities
- Joining safety audits and performing spot checks to make sure the work environment is as safe as possible
- Collaborating with key members of the technical team to identify hazards and plan the best methods to safely and effectively progress business activities
- Managing all procurement requirements in relation to H&S.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's level degree in a relevant field or equivalent by experience
- At least 2 years recent and relevant H&S experience in a similar role/in a Biological, Chemical or CDMO based environment (specific scientific training will be provided)
- NEBOSH General Certificate and/or IOSH certification and an understanding of COSHH requirements preferred
- Excellent oral/written communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal and presentation skills
- Ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team
- Exceptional organisation and time management skills to deliver results to established timelines and be able to work in a rapidly changing environment
- Excellent attention to detail and experience in formulating, implementing and revising H&S policies and procedures in audit situations
- Ability to listen actively as the role will include working alongside staff to support their H&S and Occupational Health needs as and when required.
