We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic team player who has experience of tutoring Adults Functional Skills, English, and Maths. An awareness of how mental illness can impact a student’s ability to focus and learn would be of value.

As a band 4 Tutor, we require you to have a genuine interest and skills to teach across a broad range of levels, from Entry 1 to Level 2. You will be required to support patients who have struggled with mainstream education both on an individual basis and as part of a group. You will work alongside the current team in supporting the implementation of a weekly timetable with an ever-growing number of educational referrals and requests. In addition, you will have the opportunity to support the senior staff in leading sessions.

As the job is in a forensic high-security hospital, a basic understanding of mental illness is useful. Your responsibilities include:

  • Supporting patients in accessing educational opportunities at different levels to achieve competence and qualifications relevant to them and their abilities, focusing on adult education for English and Maths support.
  • Demonstrating a flexible and inclusive approach when offering educational support to patients, who can have extreme mental health presentations and/or be in very restricted circumstances.
  • Being flexible with regard to the needs of the patients and the organization, as work can take place in the Education department or on the wards with the patients.
  • Conducting all work face to face, as we do not have an option for online learning.
