Business Development Manager
Location: London – Hybrid working, 3 days in office, 2 from home
My client, a specialist investigations consultancy, is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to lead their business development strategy and drive growth. This BD Manager role is a perfect combination of tactical delivery and strategic planning, working closely with senior stakeholders, with responsibility for managing a Business Development Assistant.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement annual business development plans aligned with firm objectives
- Drive strategic initiatives to enhance market presence
- Identify target markets, key opportunities, and set measurable goals
- Support senior fee earners in lead generation, targeting, and pitch preparation
- Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and markets
- Profile raising initiatives through external partnerships, conference attendance and thought leadership work
- Manage BD budgets and track ROI
- Oversee the development of tailored proposals, presentations, and marketing materials
- Manage and mentor the BD Assistant
- Oversee annual legal directories submissions (e.g., Chambers & Partners)
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on BD activities and pipeline status
Candidate Profile
- 6–8 years’ experience in business development, ideally within the investigations or legal sector
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful BD strategies
- Proactive, self-starter with a dynamic approach
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building abilities
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret market data and trends
- Experience supporting senior stakeholders and working collaboratively across teams
- Proficiency with CRM systems and BD toolsDegree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is preferred but not essential
