Role Purpose

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Systems Lead is the operational and strategic owner of the Club’s finance technology ecosystem, with Workday at its core. This role ensures that finance processes are efficient, data is reliable and systems are used to their full potential. You will act as the bridge between Finance, Business Analytics, Technology and the wider business, ensuring that the Club’s financial operations are automated, scalable and insight driven. This is a hands‑on finance technology role, embedded within the Club’s Finance team and ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of accounting and digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end administration, configuration, and optimisation of the Workday Financials system and all associated Finance systems across all finance functions.
  • Act as the internal Workday subject matter expert, supporting users and ensuring the platform meets the evolving needs of the finance team.
  • Lead the further Club’s adoption of Workday Financials and Tableau Reporting, system updates, enhancements, and integrations, coordinating with internal IT, third-party vendors, and Workday directly as required.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance, Business Analytics, Procurement, HR, and IT teams to streamline processes and ensure data integrity and alignment across systems.
  • Drive best practice usage and continuous improvement of Workday modules including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, and Reporting.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial close processes from a systems and automation standpoint.
  • Produce and maintain Workday financial reports and dashboards to provide clear insight into performance for finance and leadership teams.
  • Support the Business Analytics team’s adoption and rollout of Tableau Reporting and play a lead role in further development of system capabilities.
  • Manage user training, change management, and onboarding as new functionalities are rolled out.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and issue resolution, logging and managing cases with Workday support.
  • Partner with external consultants and Workday partners on ongoing roadmap development and strategic enhancements.

Person Specification

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing Workday Financials (or similar software) within a complex finance environment.
  • Strong understanding of core finance and accounting principles, ideally with a professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Deep familiarity with Workday Financials modules including setup, configuration, reporting, and security (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with finance, IT, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience of leveraging advances in AI capabilities to improve finance processes.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate business needs into system solutions.
  • Track record of leading financial systems implementations or upgrades, ideally in a lead or super‑user capacity.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in project or change management within financial systems is highly desirable.
