The Role
We’re currently recruiting for a Technical Manager to join our Stadium Operations department, to help us take things to the next level. You will report to the Head of Stadium Facilities and will work alongside a multi-disciplined FM and event delivery team. You manage and or review all maintenance activities within the Stadium Campus, ensuring both the in-house specialised technical maintenance team and out-sourced services are delivering to highest of standards and all statutory requirements are being met or exceeded.
About You
- Overall ownership of all technical assets and critical systems maintenance, compliance and risk management including but not limited to auditing, testing, reporting and record keeping.
- Review and manage alongside Technical Contract/Optimisation Manager & Maintenance Manager, the technical services and maintenance operations, including day to day technical services & utilities, event/life safety and match continuation systems, ensuring a high level of service, and delivering ‘best in class.
- Review the planned preventative maintenance specification and schedules utilised in the CAFM system within the stadium campus, ensuring all assets are maintained in accordance with the statutory and legislative requirements appropriate to a sports/public venue.
- Hold accountabilities for all scenario/‘doomsday’ testing and pre-event checks of the systems utilised within the stadium, ensuring compliance with Safety Certificate requirements.
- Responsible for completion, review, record, communication and sign off all PEAP & IST inspections and liaise with Safety Officer, local authority, Stadium Director & Head of Stadium Facilities with all queries and/or mitigations.
- Responsible for coordinating, managing, review, record, communication and sign off scenario/shutdown and doomsday testing, liaising with all involved or impacted stakeholders.
- Ensure overall preparation and best in class presentation of the stadium campus, always.
- Provide technical guidance for the club and if appropriate deputize for the Head of Stadium Facilities as and when required.
- Create and communicate a technical audit schedule and carry out audits as per this schedule to ensure the proactive PPM program is being undertaken.
- Ensure regular/scheduled technical and compliance audits are completed and manage/host all external audit requirements (I.e., Local authority, BSI, sporting body etc.)
- Support in house teams with remedial works and mitigations on any identified non-conformances.
- Support with the maintenance budget including analysis, reporting and purchase order authorisation, especially for items included on the risk register.
- Ensure safe working practices are adopted, and the business is achieving compliance with all relevant legislation.
- Review, advise and/or update on clubs’ technical policies.
- Create and roll out technical SOPs/RA’s for stadium stakeholders via toolbox talks and scenario training.
- Provide technical support to the other FM Managers, their direct reports, agents, and subcontractors.
- Point of call for escalation of daily maintenance & OOH faults and fulfil matchday technical manager duties on rotation with Technical Contract/Optimisation Manager and Maintenance Manager.
- Support with any proposed changes or upgrades to the technical services within the stadium campus, ensuring they are completed to agreed specification and are cost competitive.
- Support wider FM and project teams and associated contractors with any technical clarifications, changes, installations, commissioning/witnessing and that all alterations/additions comply with the relevant legislation and stadium strategies.
- Responsible for the tools and testing equipment suitability utilised within the maintenance department, ensuring it is maintained, calibrated and meets all statutory and legislative requirements.
- Support a multi-skilled maintenance team and directly line manage the specialised technical team (the authorised electricians, IST technician & Pitch electromechanical Engineer), taking the lead in matters of recruitment, training, and development of this team.
- Support and manage the Pitch electromechanical engineer with the planning, completion and reporting of the pitch plant maintenance (In house and SCX or other) alongside the grounds team, ensuring the uptime availability of the associated plant at all times.
- Support and manage the IST engineer with the planning, completion and reporting on all IST tests and remedial works, liaising with numerous club stakeholders to ensure all tests are completed to ensure the successful application of the safety certificate.
- Hold AE and L8 responsible person deputy duties and ensure the AP’s, in house engineering and contractor’s competency is reviewed, recorded, tested and signed off.
- Ensure Technical manager and/or AP’s attendance for all bowl events.
- Ensure HVLV switching schedules are created, saved and tested.
What you will bring
- Qualified (City and Guilds/HNC or equivalent building services qualification) and experienced with a thorough understanding of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and ‘hands on’ experience working as an engineer.
- Experience of working at a high technical level within a complex mechanical and electrical environment, having held AE and Responsible person duties previously.
- Thorough understanding of statutory and legislative requirements.
- Project management and Contract Management skills.
- Demonstrable experience managing maintenance contracts.
- Excellent administration and orientation skills.
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety.
- Experience working with and implementing CAFM systems.
- Experience in managing outsourced contracts.
- Ability to demonstrate delivering ‘best in class technical services and craftsmanship to large footfall events and iconic buildings.
- Event management experience is essential, within Stadia and/or Arena context.
- Health and Safety trained to IOSH level.
