The Role

  • To contribute to the aims and objectives of the Medical and Sports Science department through the provision of Sports Medicine and general practice.
  • To become embedded in an innovative medical team which strives to achieve optimal results in the areas of performance, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, while providing elite care for players.
  • Develop and align the Women’s 1st team and Academy SM support to the football performance strategy of the club and 1st team coach.

About You

  • Two day a week position providing assessment clinics as directed by The Head of Medical Services (Job Share currently, a weekday and game).
  • To work closely with the Head of Medicine in the diagnosis of injuries and illness for Women’s First Team and Academy.
  • Develop and manage external referrals and communication with multisport doctors/consultants and out of hours support, working closely with physiotherapists, sports therapists, and other members of the MDT as relevant.
  • To create successful and professional relationships with staff whilst maintaining professional distance from playing staff at all times.
  • To facilitate an environment in which our athletes can prepare for the demands of training and playing at an elite level.
  • Involved in all aspects of whereabouts, drug and doping player information and be available to oversee the doping processes whenever required. Promote anti-doping policies in line with WADA and advise athletes on banned drugs.
  • Contribute to the multidisciplinary team which aims to align with the practice and performance planning of the coaches.
  • To observe, monitor and react to the ever-evolving world of Sports Medicine; keeping up to date with all current research developments and changes in professional regulations.
  • Develop and keep policies and procedures updated to proactively mitigate medical risk to senior players, including medicines management and concussion (alongside their GP).
  • Support with medical screening for the signings of all new players as well as regular medical health screenings of first team players and Academy.
  • Provide support out of hours in sports medicine and general practice, when required.
  • Help to create a Female Athlete health process and implement into the daily lives of the 1st Team players.
  • Order and maintain drug supplies and medical clinical equipment.
  • Match Day cover.
  • Comfortable working with the full spectrum of injuries you would expect in women’s high-performance environment.
  • Keep accurate medical records using a computerised note system.

What you will bring

  • GMC registered, with evidence of successful on-going appraisal and revalidation under the GMC.
  • License to practise in the UK.
  • Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine or an equivalent or higher professional qualification as otherwise approved by The Football Association.
  • High level of medical understanding of common sporting and general medical ailments and appropriate medical treatment options.
  • Experience as a Team Doctor in Sport.
  • Experience in coach and athlete education in high performance sport.
  • An understanding of the FSEM Code of Conduct.
  • Track record of successfully integrating into established and developing coaching team.
  • Excellent planning and communication skills with experience participating in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Be a good role model for staff and players in the elite sport environment in terms of knowledge, behaviour, and development.
  • Maintain high professional standards at all time and conform to expected behaviours in terms of clinical practice and confidentiality.
  • Ability to liaise with international medical teams.
  • Have the ability to work in a fast-moving environment.
  • Possess communication skills that are clear, engaging and responsive.
  • Be willing and able to travel away from home including to international tours and tournaments, including weekends, bank holidays, and evening work.
  • Demonstrates good work ethic and high output.
