Job description

The U9 Assistant Coach will support the U9 Lead Coach with the delivery of the Academy Coaching and Games Programme for the U9 Academy age group.

The position will involve working irregular hours (e.g. Evenings / Saturdays / Sundays / Bank Holidays, School Holidays etc) so a flexible candidate is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver sessions to the Academy U9 age group within the Academy Curriculum/Syllabus and Technical/Tactical Cycle as and when required.
  • In conjunction with the U9 and U10 Cell Lead and U9 Lead Coach, design, devise and deliver Individual Learning Plans (ILP’s) for players within the Academy U9 age group.
  • Support Match Day/Tournament preparation and performance for the U9 age group including the selection of Match Day/Tournament squads.
  • Travel with U9 Tournament Squads (domestic and abroad), providing coaching support and pastoral care that adheres to Academy guidelines/policies.
  • Attend weekly MDT meetings with the U9 and U10 Cell Lead, U9 Lead Coach and staff members from other appropriate departments.
  • Ensure that detailed session plans and a register of attendance are produced for every session each week on the Academy Session Plan Template.
  • Ensure that detailed Match Analysis Sheets are produced for every game and tournament each week on the Academy Match Analysis Sheet Template.
  • Ensure that detailed Match and Tournament player reports are produced each week on the Academy Match Report Template.
  • Support the U9 Lead Coach with detailed player reports and action plans for all U9 players as per Premier League rules (Every 12 weeks).
  • Support U9 Mid-Season (Christmas) and end of season (April/May/June) Player/Parent meetings.
  • Support analysis sessions and workshops to the U9 age group when required.
  • Ensure that data entry (both for training sessions, matches and tournaments) is accurate and up to date on the relevant systems (Kitman Labs) for the U9 age group.
  • To support the Pre-Academy (U8) and EDC (U9) coaching programmes plus other Academy programmes and activities as well as Talent ID and ‘Area Best’ events when required.
  • Establish relationships with players and parents of allocated age groups in line with Academy Policies and manage age group specific communication via Club issued devices.
  • Work closely with Academy Medical, Sports Science, Analysis, Education, Player Care/Safeguarding, Operations and Kit staff regarding the players’ holistic programme and needs.
  • Support the U9 Lead Coach, the U9 and U10 Cell Lead, the Head of Foundation Coaching and the Academy Recruitment team regarding potential trialists/signings.
  • Support the U9 Lead Coach, the U9 and U10 Cell Lead and the staff from the Player Care Team with any player release meetings.
  • Embody the Academy Philosophy and apply to all aspects of interactions with Academy Stakeholders (players, parents & colleagues).
  • To support the identification of potential talent in the Pre-Academy Programme (U8) and Elite Development Centre Programme (U9) when required.
  • Maintain mandatory CPD record, including Club issue DBS check (every three years), UEFA Licence (15 hours of the appropriate level CPD every three years), Advanced Youth Award, FA Safeguarding Children Workshop (every three years), relevant FA Emergency First Aid qualification as per Premier League rules (currently EFAiF – every three years).

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience of working within an Academy environment
  • Experience of working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Good organisational and personal management skills
  • Proficient IT skills (specifically Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to deal with day-to-day issues using own initiative
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Experience of working with children (specifically those aged 7-12 years)
  • Experience of working to deadlines in a high-pressure environment
