The role of the Waking Night Residential Childcare Worker is truly a special position. As a Waking Night Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well‑being of children during the night.

A night in the life of a Waking Night Residential Childcare Worker:
Whilst every day brings an opportunity to shape our children’s lives for the better, no one day or night is ever the same. Some evenings you will enjoy making fabulous memories with our children; supporting with their night time routine, preparing what is needed for the following day, providing nurturing and emotional support, enjoying story time. Other evenings may be more challenging. Our children’s complexities mean that they may face physical disability, illness, emotional and mental health struggles, present behaviour that may challenge you, and struggle to communicate with and understand the world around them. These are the evenings that require your resilience and commitment, but they’re also the nights that lead to the greatest sense of achievement. When a child is experiencing physical or emotional pain or difficulty, your support means everything to them and it is what inevitably means that they end their day feeling happier, loved, and safe.
Your Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out your duties in a way that always safeguards and promotes the welfare of all children and young people, in accordance with legislation and company policy and procedure.
- Advocate for our children and uphold their rights at all times.
- Build strong, positive relationships with our children and key people and agencies in their lives.
- Complete the nightly routines of the home including cleaning, cooking, and washing.
- Contribute to the children and young people’s care plans.
- Attend and complete all training as required within the requisite timescales.
- Work towards completing your Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner and complete this within 2 years of commencing your employment with us.
- Keep your senior team up to date of any Safeguarding issues as they occur.
- Use the provided Reporting and Recording systems to keep timely, clear and accurate records of your and our children’s daily activities.
- Understand the 9 Quality Standards and use this knowledge to underpin your daily practise.
- Uphold a culturally inclusive ethos which actively values and promotes diversity, unity and community cohesion.
